Jonas Shmidt

Jonas is a Toreador Kindred, a German performance artist as well as a sculptor, installation artist, graphic artist, art theorist and pedagogue of art. His work is grounded in concepts of humanism, social philosophy and anthroposophy; it culminates in his "extended definition of art" and the idea of social sculpture as a gesamtkunstwerk, for which he claimed a creative, participatory role in shaping society and politics. His career was characterized by passionate, even acrimonious public debate. He is a middle-aged man, but his wrinkled skin makes him look older. He always wears a hat. He is one of the most controversy among Toreador regarding the new definitions that can be given to art. He has been embraced by Lisa Muller in the 70s. Jonas is interested in arguing for everything, the same way as he likes to argue what art is. He is a polemic person, he sometimes opposes the elderĀ“s decisions, especially when he wants to diversify the forms of artistic expression and when he wants to take part on the political decision. Notoriously, the clan members who want to counteract the elders asks him for suggestion and intervention.
