Keane - My Brother's Keeper

Keane Elisedd, the current Lady of House Ardith, hails from the sky-piercing spires of Nova Castillia on Fenksworld. Many generations in the past, the house's fortunes waxed great alongside its influence on the hive world. All of that changed when Lord Albrecht inherited the house as a young man after the untimely passing of his father. It is unknown what crimes the young Lord committed, but they were sufficient for him to be deposed by his younger sister with the blessing of the planetary governor. That sister, whose name was also Keane, won a special dispensation from the governor to inherit the house on her brother's death provided that rulership passed back to the male line on the birth of the house's next son. Since that time, no lady of the house has borne a male child -a fact viewed as a blessing of the Emperor by some and a curse by others-.

The beginning of the house's decline came about as a result of relationship's which soured under the brief, tumultuous tenure of the man who is referred to in the family history books as Albrecht the Fool. Unfortunately, in spite of many talents, the first Keane was unable to undo the damage done by her elder brother. Today, House Ardith is but a shadow of its former self. Its residence in the glittering spires of Nova Castillia is small by comparison to the truly rich, and the halls are largely empty with old furniture buried in an age of dust.

It is little surprise then that the Ladies of the house turned to the grayer areas of the law. While there are a number of valid businesses tied to Ardith, none are the true source of what little by way of power and fortune the house yet retains. The rumors, if they are to be believed, point to illicit trade in nigh-heretical Xenos technologies and black market arms. Fortunately, the rumors have never been confirmed.

In spite of a public life of service to the God-Emperor of Mankind's Holy Inquisition, Keane has seen to her duty to family. She married young and bore two daughters before the death of her husband in a tragic accident which occurred shortly after the birth of the second child. When Keane was called away, her younger sister Ardith -named for the ancient founder of the house- stepped up to care for the young children. Her daughter Elise will eventually inherit the house while the younger girl, Victoria is being groomed to serve at her sister's right hand.

Keane is tall at almost six-feet, with a lean, sculpted build suited to statuary and form-fitting clothing. Her black hair is kept in a pixie cut, keeping her green eyes clear of obstruction. She is commonly seen wearing a self-assured expression and a faint smirk. Her typical attire consists of a matte, dark gray armored body glove with a large, blackened steel hand cannon at her right hip.

Among her more questionable decisions, at least in the minds of many Imperial citizens, was that to carry a pair of weapons of Xenos origin. Both come from the idealistic Tau race and, in spite of their uncertain histories, have been used to great effect in service to the Inquisition.
