Heather Ward

Name: Heather Anne Ward
Current Age:27
Role in Organization:

Appearance:
With soft blonde hair and bright, happy blue eyes, Heather Ward - Heather Emerson, now - is an attractive young woman. She stands just over 5'4" and her oval face is almost always framed by her curly, wavy hair. Her frame is slim and petite but not muscular. She has never been particularly athletic; as a child, she was more inclined to stay inside and read with her adopted father than to ever try to play soccer or softball or basketball or any number of other sports. There was one disastrous season as an eight year old, just after her parents' car accident, where she'd tried to play on a soccer team at her new school and ended up accidentally kicking a goal into her own team's net. Her team had been irritated with her and she'd been so embarrassed by the incident that she'd begged Emmy to let her quit, claiming that she hated the sport when really she'd just hated the mean comments the other girls had had for her.

As a young adult, Heather was bullied in school, often by a popular girl in her grade who had not liked Heather from the second she'd arrived in their school system after moving to live with Emmy. Quiet and withdrawn with big glasses, a young Heather often kept to herself and avoided drawing unnecessary attention to herself until well into high school. Shortly after her fifteenth birthday, she finally managed to shed some of the difficult trappings of adolescence - the acne and braces and even the glasses were items she was able to leave behind as she entered her junior year of high school with a new haircut and new contact lenses. Though naturally smart and motivated enough to get through high school and graduate a semester early, Heather left school with very little idea about exactly what she wanted to do with her life. It was on Emanuel's suggestion that Heather entered into a trade school and decided to study cosmetology like her mother had before her.

Following her graduation, Heather began working in a salon not far from where she grew up and though she enjoyed her work, she couldn't help but feel as though Emmy had been hoping for his surrogate daughter to accomplish something a bit more impressive. Her change in career came at the suggestion of an old boyfriend, one who had always complimented her baking and suggested that she look for a job that would encourage those skills.

By the time she met Aidan Emerson, Heather had left the salon she'd been working in and had spent over a year working at a bakery owned by a family friend of theirs. With her newfound industry, Heather had finally felt like she'd found some niche to explore that had truly been her own and had happily woken early every morning to begin the long day baking breads and pies and cakes. Part of her had been relieved to find some sort of calling of her own rather than trying to fit herself into the person Emmy remembered her mother as and she was happy to bring Aidan into that part of her life shortly after they'd begun dating. There'd been one night early on in their relationship where she'd brought him to the bakery she worked in and taught him how to knead dough in order to create the best bread, a skill she'd learned early on in her time with the new job.

Since the fall, Heather has been staying with Aidan and her father-in-law, Neil, inside the compound that they and the rest of the military and civilian survivors have built. For the past four months, she's been trying her hardest to fill whatever role Aidan, Emmy, or anyone else needs her to fill and has been anxiously awaiting any news about the rest of her husband's family.
