Growing up on Chrysolite mean that there were always plenty of things around to fly. Tom took advantage of that, and with his friend Jerry they went through flight school together. Tom hit an asteroid when the two of them were racing through an asteroid belt that hurt his back and nearly killed him, though it did killed his confidence, making him very scared to enter dangerous situations again. He has opted to fly missile fighters as they stay well out of the action.
