Originally a criminal profiler for the FBI, Brightsky cultivated psychic abilities to make her more effective at her job. She was tapped to join the ARD when it formed, and served as a profiler for them, investigating Abnormals and verifying facts. She left the ARD after The Sandman attack, went back to school, and got a degree in psychology and a therapy licence, then went to work for Hillside.
