Jordi is the current youngest member of Lord William Stuart's Crimson Guard.  A man in his mid-twenties, Jordi joined the military a few months before he reached the legal required age.  As a lad, he was raised as a farmer second and hunter first, put to work from the moment he could handle the tools required.  His last name, Slate, comes not from his father's side, but from the fact that he is a bastard - the product of a night enjoyed by a highborn soldier on leave, and his mother who served as a nurse to the army.  He was born two months after she was released from service to return to her family's farm.

Barely a year into his service, Jordi received a transfer to the very army led by William Stuard himself.  His skills in hunting and as a woodsman allowed him to distinguish himself among his peers.  As a result, he was quickly moved from a frontline soldier, to the army's Scouting Corps.  There, Jordi thrived.  As with many in the Scout Corps, he worked best when alone or with a small team, his skills better suited towards stealth, archery, and single combat as opposed to heavy armor and squad-based combat.

Jordi served William's army for nearly five years, and in that time came to lead the Scouting Corps.  He became known for spending more time away from the army than with it, his intel passed along through other members of the Scouting Corps, or by reports directly to William Himself (much to the chagrin of his personal guards, who rarely caught him slipping by).  What he did in his many days away from the army, few knew.  There were rumors that he had a wife and family, following at a distance.  Others said he was a wizard or shapeshifter, unable to spend extended time around humans.  There were a few that got it close, claiming that he spent his nights not with the armor nor in the rough, but in the arms of beautiful maidens and housewives around the countryside.

In truth, he'd spent a few nights under such circumstances, but he was careful.  Unlike many soldiers on campaign, he made sure that he would not leave behind any bastards - while he did not have a poor life, he grew up never knowing a father, in a household that could have used one to help with the work.

In the ambush that resulted in William's injury, Jordi had been instrumental in preventing a complete rout.  Though he had been unable to warn the army of the impending ambush due to the presence of enemy forces between himself and the army, Jordi had managed to sabotage a few of their boulder traps that had been positioned further up the pass from the army.  Had they been brought into play, many more lives would have been lost.

When William made the decision to retire from active command, Jordi was among those who volunteered to form the Crimson Guard, becoming the only member of the Scouting Corps to do so.  Among the Crimson Guard, he is the foremost expert in archery and scouting, and he rarely wears the 'official' armor and gear (even now that the Guard has been formed into an official force).  Due to his unique skills, he is often given solo tasks and other unusual assignments.
