Oscar

Name: Oscar Goldman
Race: Boggart
Age: In his human mien, he looks to be in his late 30's to early 40's
Height: 4' 10"

Appearance: As a mortal, he's a short, balding man in his 40's who wears a rumbled and dingy white collared shirt, loud tie, threadbare sports jacket and polyester pants. He's usually chomping on a fat cigar and puffing out obnoxious clouds of ashen smoke.

His Fae mien is rather similar, but his limbs are thicker and more muscular, his head lumpy and more monstrous looking and his skin has a slightly greyish tone to it.

Personality:Oscar is, at heart, a creature who revels in the space between light and darkness. He loves helping flawed humans corrupt themselves and has made a game out of 'helping' people obtain what they think is their heart's desire, only for them to discover that their wish has brought them nothing but misery and heartache. Oscar smokes cigars, drinks too much, frequents strip clubs, gambling dens and other shady establishments. He hasn't realized it, but he's really just a 'house Fae' for the seedy underbelly of the City.

Background Oscar(not his True Name) has been in Manhattan for a good long time having come over with some of the early colonists back when he was a helpful Brownie named Coinspinner (still not his True Name, but named such because of his penchant for taking metal coins and working them into beautiful jewelry pieces for his family to wear/sell). He was a friendly, helpful house fae to a family of English immigrants. He stayed with the family for generations, but eventually found himself on his own as the family he served eventually died off without an heir.

He joined the Morgan Library at its inception, finding a place and purpose as he had lost the mortal family he once served. He took on his mortal name (Oscar) and a mortal appearance and with the support of the Library started to make a place for himself in the city. He founded a jewelry shop on 47th street in Midtown (Goldman Jewelers) and lived life pretty much as a mortal. Over the decades, as the city changed so did he. He became embittered, cynical, angry, and his Fae mien shifted from a pleasantly plump Brownie, to we twisted, lumpy Boggart. He became involved in criminal enterprises - fencing, counterfeiting jewelry, and his favorite - grifting/conning the humans. Now a days, there is nothing he likes more than helping a greedy human get their comeuppance by swindling them.

He's protected by the Library, and is committed to the protection of the Veil and the Fae. He wouldn't be able to continue his 'fun' without the secrecy and protections that the Library affords. Oscar has agreed to a set of conditions that prevent him from starting trouble directly. However, he does maintain the 'loophole' that he can aid a mortal if they freely ask for his 'help'. While many Fae don't like Oscar, no one can say that he every violated his agreement. Oscar is a little worried that the Fae may at some point 'crack down' on him and prevent him from playing his amusing games with the mortals. He is also afraid that his existence is meaningless. He won't admit it (even to himself), but deep down he is afraid that he lacks a purpose and that he's simply killing time. Instead of dwelling on the purpose of his existence, he drowns those thoughts in an array of human vices.
