Susan Mercer

Meta: Attractive 1, Diplomacy 1, Intimidate 5. Looks really fit and healthy

Susan is a Chav (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chav). Until recently she lived in the shadow of spaghetti junction (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spaghetti_Junction) in Birmingham. Her father races pigeons, grows and sells pot. Her mother works part time at the local Sainsbury's as a checkout operator.

Until her seventeenth birthday she attended Queen Mary's High. She didn't like it there and the school didn't like her. The school had given up on Susan before she was twelve years old: poor grades, poor attention, poor impulse control, poor attendance. She was placed in the bottom stream with the other no hopers. The school had her pegged down as 'pregnant by the time she is 14', 'in jail by the time she is 17', no grades expected. They were partly right: she left school with no grades, but she doesn't have any children, and isn't in jail.

For the last year she's been fourth generation unemployed. Living with her parents. When you have nothing, all you have is being hard. Susan is hard. No one can make her do anything she doesn't want to. She works out at Ricky's gym most nights either Capoiera or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. No one messes with her.

For a boy there are two ways off the estate: boxing and drugs. For a girl there are two ways as well: whoring and drugs. Susan isn't a whore, and since she isn't a boy she can't box herself out.  Between the ages of 9 and 16 she was a mule for a drug ring. In her local community the drug pushers were more respected than the police: keeping order and being a primary source of employment. Kids were used as cut outs,  as they are immune to prosecution and there is little the police can do to to them. The fights here were more serious. She didn't kill anyone, but she did put a lot of people in hospital, and has a small scar on the front of her torso, with a matching one on the back from when she was shot.

The drug situation in Birmingham is very different to the states. The Man in charge is David Stockman. He's been in charge for all the time Susan has been working in the trade. He looks after the estate, keep violence down (in Susan's view the police/Pigs do diddly squat). He keeps the dirty stuff off the streets, and is a source of income for a large number of residents: he's a respected member of the community. Susan likes and trusts him. When she was shot, most of the estate was shocked. That use of a gun was extreme (crimes with guns in them are 1/650th as common in the the UK as the states), and the person that shot her was hunted down and fed into a wood chipper head first 'to remind people not to bring guns onto the estate'. Susan was in hospital at the time, and threw up when she heard, although she's not told anyone that: it would spoil her 'hard girl look'

Susan hasn't been in jail, but she has a record an inch thick. Community Service Orders, Anti Social Behaviour Orders. Written Warnings. Like most Chavs she dresses well. Nice clothes. Nice bicycle. There is a tattoo of a butterfly on her neck, but while her ears are pierced, she's only had them pierced once.

Unknown to most of her friends one of the Community Service Orders actually worked. She was assigned to Springboard: a hostel for the homeless. 'do a hundred hours cleaning the loos that the wino's use'. To her surprise she discovered she actually like working there. One of the helpers (Sarah Scaif) took an interest in her. Now she spends quite a few hours every week helping out: doing grunt physical labour, and talking to the winos. Two of her best friends now are Bill (an aging ex special forces deserter from Desert Storm) and Bag Lady Jill.

Susan works hard, fights hard, and plays hard. But she doesn't love hard. She'd done some heavy petting, but hasn't found the right guy. She broke Jamie's nose two weeks ago when he started to date rape her. Her best friend Kylie, who is gay, came onto her after that and said 'just one kiss, and if you don't like it then I won't push again'. The problem was she did like it, but she said she didn't and is still looking for Mr Right.

A keen Live Action Role Player and reenactment player, Susan was persuaded to try this Cosplay idea by her friend Kylie. She's not really sure what it's about, but quite likes 'getting into costume' and 'roleplaying' when she takes part in 'Birmingham by night', or 'Fools and Heroes'.
