Salamander

Those that fought in the war probably heard of the flame warrior 'Salamander,' while those that opposed his sigil probably did not live to tell about it. His tactics stood out among the Peas'mak army as highly aggressive, said to raze across the land like wildfire. While obviously hated by his enemies, even his allies grew to dislike him despite his prowess, as he was said to burn everything around him.

Orion Gwyn was born in a war camp during the early years of the war, a human. His father was a distinguished warrior in his own right, having some influence and pull, so his son was put through special training, taught the ways of magic and combat, and joined the battlefield at a young age. He gradually grew to some prominence and titles began to surface, though he himself insisted upon 'Salamander,' likely drawing from his fire magic and appearance (bald, wide set). Though other grandiose names still surfaced, Salamander stuck. ('Flame' names were popular among his enemies, whichever side they were on.)

Friction existed between Salamander and his superiors, as he had a tendency to do things his way whenever possible. Similarly, there was a concerning amount of altercations with him and his 'fellow soldiers.' However, more than one of these scuffles ended in crippling damage or scarring, living stories of the danger he posed.

It is said during a battle Salamander's commander panicked and made the order to retreat. Instead, Salamander decapitated the man, rallied the troops and redeemed the battle, marking his ascension to true command. The official story though is that the commander simply died in combat and leadership fell upon Salamander, and his prior accomplishments allowed him to keep the position.

Infighting grew worse as Salamander continued to grow into power. While he was always at the front line, his aggressive tactics often put his men at great risks, resulting in unnecessary and great losses. Perhaps the biggest issue was; Peas'mak always tried to show a certain regard for the people and territory it conquered, out of pride and practicality. While not outright cruel, Salamander did not share this trait. Some mutinous attempts were made to kill him, some direct and others indirect, but the most notable failure was when he survived a seemingly lethal dose of poison.

Salamander may have been best known for something else however. One time, an opportune path to the enemy was through land occupied by a fire breathing wyvern. Perhaps unsurprisingly, he marched his troops through the beast's territory. However, rather than hope to avoid the wyvern, he (and his troops) actively sought it out, battling it multiple times and hunting it down, until its corpse adorned his body as armor.

At the end of the war, many expected Salamander to fight to the last man, or for his men to finally succeed in killing him. Instead, his forces managed to breach the enemy line, then continue off elsewhere. From there, they effectively dispersed and disappeared, like many other Peas'mak troops did. Many of course tried to hunt down Salamander, but many never returned either.
