Zif was born into slavery on his home planet and once he came of a age he was off worlded to serve whatever master had brought him. It just happened to be a Hutt and due to his large size even at such a young age Zif was installed into one of the Hutt armies. Small affairs by core world standards it was never the less probably the best outcome given Zifs position. He was bonded to serve for many years with the outcome of probably being able to work his way out of slavery, the contract was a bit vague on that point.

After many years of fighting for the Hutt, Zif never did learn his name he was deemed to have fulfilled his contract and was given his freedom of a sort. He was unable to leave the planet and as the Duros who sent him on his way said he was always able to sign up again, waving the contract from his desk.

With no money and little in the way of possessions Zif was drawn to the fighting pits as a spectator and then a combatant. The matches were rigged and Zif witnessed enough deaths to realise his own was inevitable if he stayed. So with even less then when he started Zif returned to the Duros and signed another contract, though on somewhat better terms then the first.
