TC 3PO spent most of his time as a maintenance droid on an automated mining station on the planet of Rinn. This isolation developed several strange quirks such as the desire to wear clothes among others in the droid. When Ankcor the Hutt closed the mine and sold off the assets he was unable or unwilling to sell the droid or to have its memory wiped. Instead over time he had a new sub routine added to covert the droid to a pilot.
