Alessandra Castillo is a merchant's daughter.

She was born to a prosperous merchant and a Spanish noblewoman who had married him against her family's wishes, he being Jewish.

When she was 16, she ran off to pursue a life of adventure. She has traveled around Europe a bit, and she is fluent in several languages, among them Italian and Greek. She also learned Hebrew from her father, and is a devout Jew.
