Amps' unusual name comes from his parents wanting two girls. They got the first when his sister Idie was born but he had been unplanned. They named him Ampersand to represent the physical conjunction between Idie and their planned second daughter. The O'Halloran's did indeed have another child, a boy they named Fourney, an abbreviation of Unfortunate.

To say that Amps grew up in a loving household would be an understatement. Incredibly gifted, his genius would be ignored until high school where he excelled at computation and logistics. He graduated early during his Junior year and enrolled in college where shortly after his academic prowess and technological genius had been recognized by the U.S. Government.

Amps now works for I.C.E. as the head of the technical laboratory. When he's not archiving information and working with Gadget to develop new equipment for I.C.E. agents, Amps enjoys putting together abstract puzzles.

He is a quick witted man and generally easily excitable but always one with a helpful suggestion or fix to solve almost any technological problem.
