Sparrow is an odd-looking sort as humans go, though she's not especially out of the ordinary for the magic-touched Aurora wizarding family. She has a wild mane of long, bushy gray-white hair and large orange eyes, as well as distinctive canine teeth. She's on the tall side for her twelve years of age and has an athletic build. She tends toward heavy and unkempt traveling clothes and sometimes decorates herself with found objects like flowers or feathers. She also unintentionally winds up "decorated" with things like sticks, leaves, and dirt at times, if she goes exploring and doesn't pay attention to her appearance.

The Aurora family is well-known for its wilderness lifestyle, and while they aren't particularly reclusive or antisocial, they're often kept at arms' length by other old wizard families for being "uncivilized." That lifestyle comes from personal preference rather than poverty or madness, though, and the Auroras are known to be go-to experts on the subjects of magizoology and herbology. In fact, there are rumors of magical beasts or monsters in the Aurora family tree, and their critics point to their often unusual appearances as evidence. Sparrow, for example, has coloration with a strong resemblance to a secretary bird - so much so that her parents actually intended to name her "Secretary Bird," until more level-headed relatives convinced them to give her a slightly more normal bird name.

She's usually accompanied by her large red-and-white ferruginous hawk, Ayla.
