Hida Hakaru, like many of his ancestors, has inherited the size and bulk that has become synonymous with the Hida namesake. Standing well over 6' (1.8m) tall he has a build that is more commonly seen in Sumai rather than the lean, defined bodies of more lithe bushi. Along with his thick limbs and slightly hunched posture, his facial features are more squared with a flatter nose, smaller eyes and the ears of a Jujutsu-Ka, swollen and slightly misshapen.

He keeps his head shaven, and it would appear that he has had his nose broken in the past, perhaps more than once. He also has a unique way of walking, a sort of side to side motion that is easy to pick out from a distance.
