Joshua Elliot Chambers

THE BASICS
Name: Joshua Elliot Chambers

Nickname: Josh, Chief

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Gender: Male

Age: 27

Hair: Very dirty blonde or very light brown depending on your point of view

Eyes: Blue

Distinguishing Marks: Minor scars everyone accumulates over time, including two gunshots, left shoulder and thigh.

General Appearance:  His ID says he’s six feet tall, but he’s really just a hair under.  He stays very fit for this job and because he enjoys it.  His voice is smooth, fairly deep and can carry well, with an infectious laugh.  He has very dirty blonde hair, blue eyes, an easy smile and an erratic shaving schedule.  When he’s thinking something over he’ll often rub his chin, and he often passes a hand through his hair in lieu of an attempt to locate a brush.  While not exceptionally graceful, he moves like he knows where he’s going and presents a friendly, confident face to the public. He’s often seen in uniform, but when not he prefers casual, comfortable clothes.  He can go dressy but has more limited options.

HISTORY
Personality: Josh is normally friendly, outgoing, and has no trouble kidding around with people.  After the death of his wife he became more withdrawn in his grief, spending his time mostly throwing himself into his work. He’s started to climb back out and is becoming more chipper and social again. In a crisis he’s fine with taking charge if appropriate, but respects others’ expertise and authority.  He’s dedicated to his job and worries about those in his care, always wishing they had more to work with but doing the best he can.

Sexual Preferences: Heterosexual so far at least

Employment (Employed/Unemployed/Out of towner etc.): Town Fire Chief, professional hired to run the otherwise volunteer department. He has started looking for options elsewhere as he doesn’t have much tying him to town at the moment other than tragedy.

About Your character:

Josh was born and raised in Montana.  After the army he trained and worked as a firefighter elsewhere before taking the job in Stillwater three years ago.  He lives alone in a house he used to share with his wife, Julia, who died two years ago in a car crash, going off a bridge into the river.  It was daylight, the weather was good, nothing in her system.  (Julia had been his high school sweetheart, they married while Josh was in the army and she was in college, she was a nurse).  Well, not totally alone, there is his German Shepherd Max, who is well-trained but is not a police dog or anything.  Max often goes with Josh around town in the back of his pickup, and walks/runs alongside him without bother of a leash.  Josh’s mother Brenda Livingston (50) lives back in Montana and works doing something with numbers, Josh doesn’t really understand with a big corporate farms.  Dad (Samuel Chambers, 52) ran off with another man’s wife five years ago and moved to Arizona, a big scandal back home at the time.  He has a younger sister, Sara (24), who plays flute with the Philadelphia Symphony.  He’s grieved for Julia but is ready to move on, having gone on a few dates in the past few months but nothing serious has developed yet.

Josh spends a good bit of time at work or exercising, especially since Julia’s death. When he does take time off, he enjoys hanging out and being social (though has not much in recent years), playing empire-building computer games like the Civilization series, reading (science fiction/fantasy and history primarily) and getting outdoors.  He’s an amateur historian and archaeologist, sometimes finding items of note on his hikes.  He plays piano and sings a little, but hasn’t much lately, and loves a variety of music, but his own collection mostly focuses on alternative/punk/pop-punk.

Josh has had army basic training and combat medic training and field experience from a tour in Afghanistan, supplemented by more EMT/firefighter training and experience in the states. He remembers a bit of his high school French, and picked up some basic Dari and Pashto in Afghanistan.  He’s a good driver, doesn’t freeze in a crisis and is healthy and athletic.  He competed in track events in high school, was a good but not great student and while no star enjoyed his time in Drama and school plays (Tom Phillips kept getting all the best parts).  Eagle Scout.  He’s a good cook and a decent chess and Go player.  He can take losses and failures personally and punish himself for them needlessly, and can overextend himself if he’s not careful.

Max:

Can often be found (often with Max):

But if helps a story or to make a connection could work out reasons to be about anywhere.
