Being raised in New York and having always lived there until quite recently, he not only prefers the big city, but is immediately suspicious of anywhere else. He recently ended an eight-year relationship, which has left him without a place of his own. A friend he met in his college days, Larissa Ravenscroft, moved to some middle of nowhere town years ago called Stillwater and has been begging him to come and visit. She has become a successful attorney, and the two have recently reconnected over their failed relationships, among other things.
