Veylla Atawn

Name: Veylla Atawn

Gender: Female

Age: She has now spent two years on Earth, however she was born long before, during the nascent ages of the Universe.

Species: Goddess

Appearance: Veylla takes the form of a lightly-toned, fair-skinned humanoid young woman in her late 20s, garbed in a simple black dress, leaving her arms to be covered by a dark brown cloak strapped onto her dress' shoulders. Her hair is a kaleidoscope of varying shades of brown, black and blonde, of which several strands are wrapped within varying accessories made out of leather, beads and feathers. Upon her head rest two antlers of the same size as those belonging to a young stag, whilst her turquoise eyes and round face are framed by strokes of black and white war-paint, with a small red dot painted between her thin eyebrows. Around her neck lies a circular silver amulet bound by a black strip of leather, along with a necklace made out of cut antlers, whose breaking points closely resemble those upon her own appendages. Besides her trusty brown satchel, within which one may find books, provisions, a waterskin and some potions, Veylla also holds a staff made out of strengthened oak wood, its tip wrapped around a small quartz sphere.

Veylla's Wolpertinger form.

When circumstances demand it, Veylla can take the appearance of a Wolpertinger, a creature resembling a house cat in size and a hare in body-shape, her head also taking the latter's appearance as small wings adorn her back. Her head also retains the antlers she sports in her human form, with her rabbit ears standing a bit further back from the branch-like appendages. Four small horns, two on each side, rest at the end of her jawline, while her upper canine teeth are elongated and slightly protrude from her mouth. Her tail is much smaller than that of a cat, yet longer than that of a rabbit, indicating that it is a hybrid of the two.

Personality: A caring and nurturing Goddess of Balance, Temperance and Harmony, Veylla Atawn had once vowed to ensure her followers' safety and well-being, along with the protection of her domain. This strong dedication would eventually come to bring great pain to her soul when she failed to hold her promise, something which still brings her pain to this day.

Isolated on Earth after the destruction of her realm and forced to rely only upon herself and her soul-linked companion, Veylla soon found a sense of deep self-doubt slither within her soul, one further accentuated by the clashing ideologies she wishes to encompass as a Goddess of Temperance. Whilst Dark is tranquil, cerebral, and, at its extremes, corrupting and representative of decay, Light embodies emotion and feeling, sometimes to the point of self-righteousness and arrogance. These opposing forces can sometimes manifest physically, causing her to appear aggressive or arrogant to those who might normally know her only as the calm and benevolent Goddess she aims to be in public.

Backstory:

Veylla's realm was once a world found within The Outer Realms, beyond the Veil that separates the unseen lands from Earth. The Enduring Forest, as the perpetual woodlands were known by name, was a dimension spawned from the Goddess' mind nameless millennia ago, filled with sprawling forests interspersed with great cities, representing the perfect balance between science and magic, a place where Veylla's followers would find both peace and prosperity through achieving Temperance in all things, as was the realm's imperative. The people of the Enduring Council, the realm's government, ruled themselves, their society being based on a group of city-representatives who would only occasionally consult with the Goddess of the realm; after all, their entire experience of living within Veylla's Domain was meant to allow and promote self-growth and self-understanding. It was for this reason that the name of the realm was not given by the woman who created it, but by the people, for she deeply cherished those she protected and nurtured.

Alas, after millennia of minor conflicts, expansion and unhindered development, Veylla's confidence gave way to arrogance, so much so that she did not notice nor intervene in what was thought to be a series of minor conflicts spread around the borders of her outer-most cities. The antlered Goddess was comfortable in the knowledge that none should have been able to break the Veil between worlds, and thus believed no conflict that occured within her lands was unsolvable or without resolution. Her illusion was soon shattered, however, when instead of a total victory, she was faced with the burning of her forest and the fall of her cities at the hands of unknown assailants, their weapons and skills vastly superior to those of her own people. When the battle was all but lost, the Goddess of Balance had but one thing left to do, one last act to perform in order to bring some sort of closure to her people.

Racing for the Council Hall with her two most faithful followers, Veylla hoped to enter the seat of her world's government, The First Tree, for it represented the point of origin for her world, and thus the only place where she could rend asunder her entire realm, bringing their foes with them into The Void. On the way, they had lost Set, one of her followers, leading to only her and Vy surviving to reach their objective. Taking the time for one final apology, Veylla's last few tears were then reduced to nothingness by the massive implosion that collapsed her entire world, leaving behind only the cold emptiness of The Great Nothing.

Yet somehow, despite all odds, Veylla's soul survived, if only just, drifting aimlessly through the space between worlds, with an unlikely companion by her side; a heart-broken, lost soul belonging to her follower and guardian, Vy, her catatonic state still somehow nourishing the Goddess' need to be worshipped, thus keeping her within an inch of death. Seeing her shattered mind and the potential for greatness that once rested within, the Goddess of Light and Dark realized that their survival was a second chance, a way to start anew... and, most of all, a path she would not squander. Thus, with their only other option being to fade from existence, the two souls linked together, forming an unseen bond that would connect the two for as long as they both lived. It was thus that the weakened Goddess could maintain her form indefinitely due to Vy's belief in her, whilst Veylla would keep the woman alive endlessly, sustaining her with her own godly energies. However, as the bond formed, they could both be aware of the other's emotions and feelings, which to the Goddess of Temperance meant opening the gates to a flood of sorrow, anguish and despair; Vy, her mind trapped in the perpetual torment caused by the loss of her loved one and the destruction of her realm, could never hope to return to what she once was.

Thus, with heavy heart, Veylla took away the memories of her life within their lost dimension, effectively giving her the chance to live a new, hopefully more fulfilling existence by her side, whilst vowing that never again would she butcher one's free will as she did to Vy, and that one day, when the woman would be ready, she'd finally grant her insight to the life she had once lived.

It was thus that after recovering from their ordeal and regrowing physical bodies for themselves, the duo used the ancient powers which once allowed her enemies to reach the Enduring Forest to emerge onto Earth, a realm where the Veil between worlds had also been weakened, suggesting the presence of their greatest enemy within the world. Presented with a new and apparently Godless realm, Veylla and Vy found no other choice but to wander its vast lands in search of knowledge, both to stop their enemy from ever destroying another realm and to return the Goddess to her former strength and glory.

During their time on Earth, the duo earned the respect and gratitude of the last few Celtic descendants hidden within the forests of Ireland, who provided shelter, items and food in exchange for Veylla's skills and knowledge. Even so, the two rarely stay in one place for long, instead opting to travel the world in search of ways to accomplish their front-most goals.

Quirks: Veylla is, to say the least, quite depressed. Whilst Vy's presence helps somewhat, especially since their connection allows each of them to feel the other's emotions, it is quite often that the Goddess feels the urge to spend her time in contemplative solitude, which inevitably ends in her pondering upon the fate of her realm and her failure to protect it. She also finds it hard to speak to others of what happened before her life on Earth, both for fear that Vy might find out about her past and because of the sheer shame she holds deep within.

On a much, much lighter note, no matter how strong Veylla becomes, there is one skill that she will never be able to perform, even with all of her Godly powers; she cannot cook. Indeed, she is a potentially realm-shattering hazard at cooking, something which Vy enjoys teasing her with to no end.

Greatest fear/weakness: A God's greatest strength and greatest weakness is its followers. When fervent in their beliefs, a God can harness their believers' fervor to perform feats once thought impossible, but should the people lose faith in their God, even the celestial being's life can be revoked, something Veylla fears greatly.

Phobias: Fear of failure, fear of losing her followers, particularly Vy, and fear of the unknown, though this last fear is not strong enough for her not to push through when necessary.
