Claude Wheeler, formerly Lieutenant Cluade Wheeler of the Third Army of Tennessee, left his home after watching the disasterous effects of so called "Reconstruction." His Wife and children had starved during the war, and he came home to a farm as empty as his heart. He tried to make a go of it, but one winter alone was more than he could handle. He packed up his meager belongings and rode west. To Settle in the Colorado territories and look for work.
He was a distinguished looking man, well built, used to hard work and with cold blue eyes that were hard like steel. His face was handsome, though weathered, and was tanned from working in the sun. No one was quite sure how old he was, but the fact that his hair was starting to go grey gave an indication he was in his late thirties to early forties.
