Horatio is built like a brick: broad shoulders, barrel chest, thick legs, the kind of build that is obviously strong without getting anywhere a magazine cover. At only 5' 7", he's still north of 200 pounds—most of it muscle. He's long-waisted and long-armed. Looking at his hands, it's not hard to imagine him choking, say, a horse. They're big and blunt-fingered and usually stained with grease and oil. Horatio's usually dressed in coveralls, but he can be convinced to "dress up" to dark jeans and a clean button down (usually short sleeves, though, because off the rack doesn't really work for him). He's usually wearing glasses or prescription goggles, which softens the image. A little.

He prefers direct solutions, but is canny enough to understand that they're not always available. His help is never free, but he'll give a  discount for the right cause or the right person. At the moment, though, he's not in a position to offer as much as he might like, and he's got a lot of people who are counting on him.
