The Cerebreaum is a rogue Clockwork program that infects a localized area rife with technology and uses that technology to exterminate all other forms of life in order to provide a staging ground for the Clockwork King's entry into another dimension for conquest. The Cerebreaum was first discovered by the Freedom Phalanx (nominally Positron) as it attempted to hijack Portal Corps in order to open a portal to the Clockwork King's dimension. Proving to be astoundingly difficult to be rid of or destroyed, being nothing more than a self-sustaining bit of electronic code, the Cerebreaum was eventually contained in a energy field and secured at the very bottom of Zigursky Penitentiary under constant surveillance until an effect means to deal with it could be mustered.

When the Zig experienced a freak blackout, the precious few milliseconds between the power surge and the backup generators kicking in, was all the time the Cerebreaum needed to escape...but instead of exiting the Zig entirely, it opted to takeover the Zig instead, utilizing it's power core as a means to construct yet another gateway to the Clockwork King's dimension while using the entirety of the Zig's defenses as a means to protecting it and preventing it from accomplishing it's goal. Fortunately for Paragon City - UV, Windwalker and Crimson Fury were able to put a stop to it's maniacal plan and contained it once more. Deemed far too dangerous to even have contained, the Cerebreaum was sent back through a portal at Portal Corps back to it's own dimension still contained an energy field. Though it is often wondered if that is truly the last Paragon City has seen of The Cerebream.
