Lord George McKinley

Character Name: George McKinley
Age: 18
Physical Description: Tall for his age, but slender, George gives no impressions of being a predator while standing on two feet. 'Bookish' is a word that might leap to mind, and deservedly so. While not classically handsome, he's not unattractive, either.

Personality: George is an outsider within his own family. He's a loner, a reader, a philosopher, and a dreamer. With the realities of being the next Lord McKinley staring him in the face, he knows he'll need to be setting these things aside... but doesn't know what else will be left when he does.

Background: For the first ten years or so of George's life, he was more Richard's shadow than a person in his own right. He worshipped his older brother, and followed him everywhere, relentlessly. Not that this was especially appreciated, of course. But such is the way of brothers, especially with better than five years difference in age.

When it stopped, it was a change so abrupt that everyone took note. The family mostly assumed that there had been a falling out of some sort, and that there would be a reconciliation, but this was not the case. It was simply that George had had a startling realization about himself and his older brother...

... he was smarter than Richard.

And this wasn't to say that Richard was a dullard, for he was not. But George was just a bit more clever, a touch more well-read... and five years younger.

And he had better things to do than to follow around a brother who would be just as happy to not have him doing it. So George devoted himself more to his studies and less to his idol worship, and both brothers were happier for it. No one doubted that they still loved each other, but they had different paths to walk in life.

George's path came to an abrupt end when Richard vanished in the European theater of war. Though Richard was the one believed dead, George was the one who had to put everything he thought of as his aside, and pick up the role of eldest son — Richard's responsibilities, dammit.
