Naqia Watanabe ("Niko"), the daughter of Akimasa Watanabe, a Japanese employee of EMB, and Hajirah Watanabe, remembers little of her early life. Her earliest memories are of cold, metallic rooms, and cold, metallic nannies. She was adopted and raised by EMB from a very early age. She was told that Akimasa, a known perfectionist, could not meet his own expectations, and defeated, ended up taking his own life. Her mother, destroyed with grief, left Naqia to the care of EMB and left, never to be heard from again. Her only authority figure was her boss, Kenneth Stuart, who was surprisingly compassionate towards her.

She quickly showed incredible prowess, whole-heartedly buying into the vision and methods of EMB. However, inside she found the practices increasingly disconcerting. This was compounded when Stuart passed away leaving Jeffrey Kai in charge. When she was 18, one of her colleagues raised some concerns regarding EMB in a very vocal manner. He was forcibly removed by some members of the corporate security force. During the removal, she said some words regarding it not being fair and what he said wasn’t even entirely wrong. No one really paid any attention, except for an employee named Boots, who took a liking to Naqia. They became quick friends and a source of venting about the practices of EBM.

Boots was eventually fired, but the two kept in touch. One day, Naqia was sitting at her terminal reviewing some reports when she got a message. “Your truth is a lie. Check your  agent.” When she looked, she found a file containing specific evidence that what she was told about her mother and father was a lie (her was really murdered for attempting to reveal corporate secrets). The hacker said he would be in touch for next steps later.

Through discussion with Boots, Naqia set a plan to acquire funds to facilitate her transition out of EBM. She has already gotten some cyberware to allow her to gather evidence and defend herself. Now, forward into destruction.
