Calamity is an army brat and when her father, the Colonel bought a fine horse ranch outside of the town boundaries of Laredo they were settled in and Jayne was sent off to the East to Finishing School by her father.  When she comes back she finds that her father died in an alley behind the Golden Garters and it was said it was over a gambling debt by someone at the table that said he was cheating.  He didn't cheat or gamble but Mayor's bank now owns the ranch and Calamity was run off of it by two ruffians of the Mayor's that nearly killed her and actually thought they had left her for dead.  She came into town and Addie took her in and took care of her like a daughter and Matt is protective as a father.  Jayne is sure that Mayor is the cause of all this but a few times she has opened her mouth and spoke out she took a beating by some stranger in the dark.  She keeps her mouth shut but her mind is always trying to find ways to prove she is right about the Mayor.  She is in love with the owner of the Laredo Arms who owns it outright too.
