In some places, Jerry would be considered a cop, but in Amber, he is a well-respected member of the castle guard which encompasses patrols not only on the grounds but around the mountainside and the roads along the way to the city gates.

He is not a native-born Amberite, but it's barely a consideration. People adapt pretty quickly to the center of reality in matters pertaining to language and heartiness.
