Briony

Briony Bethany Olivia Domdaniel (or usually just “Bri”, pronounced like Bree) is a 16-year-old junior at the Eavesdown Preparatory Academy in Manhattan, New York.  She practically glows with classical wholesome cheerleader-next-door looks, cornsilk blonde and baby blue, 5’1" and very petite; easily the smallest girl on the cheer squad, and therefore the flyer at the top of the pyramid, where she belongs.  The Domdaniels are “old money,” a celebrated and storied family whose New York roots go back to New Amsterdam, and include a half-dozen state senators, a state governor, a handful of Congressmen, a mayor of New York City, two Provosts of Columbia University, and two federal Secretaries of the Treasury.  The Domdaniels have been massively well-connected and ridiculously prosperous for over three hundred years, and for just as long they have steadfastly - even litigiously - denied the urban legends claiming that their fortune arose due to supernatural influence, pacts made with the Fair Folk of County Cork before they left the Old Country.

An intuitively social creature, breezing effortlessly into the good graces of most everyone she meets, Briony in her natural habitat is rarely encountered outside the company of a sizable segment of her vast nebula of friends. She seems to simply have a “presence” about her, an intensely sunny aura that puts people instinctively at ease, and it’s clear that she is well accustomed to being the center of attention. Although she’s managed to avoid much of the disdainful haughtiness one might expect from a cosseted blue-blooded princess, she is known to react with petulance or indignation when she perceives that her Queen Bee standing has been slighted, or that she has not been afforded the attention or deference due her.

Very new to being an Amberite, her mother Florimel only introduced her to the True City just under a year ago; she'd lived her life to that point unaware of either the vast multiverse beyond her home Shadow, or her privileged place in it.  She's still working her way up to taking the Pattern but hopes to be deemed ready to do so within the next few months.

She is absolutely never seen without a certain necklace on her person, its pendant a huge irregularly-faceted vibrantly green garnet in a gold setting. It stays with her through showers, swimming pools, and metal detectors, and is the subject of a long-lasting stabilizing sorcery, renewed as necessary, which ensures that the stone won’t inadvertently come loose from its setting or the chain slip from her neck.

Her name is a traditional one among the daughters of the Domdaniel family, and every one of them has pronounced it "wrong": she pronounces it to rhyme with peony, rather than as the flowering vine the name is drawn from, which would be more like "Brian" with an "-ee" at the end.  She doesn't mind correcting people when they mispronounce it, and she'll always do it very politely, the first time.
