Nicholas is a somewhat short, slender boy, standing at just under four and a half feet tall and weighing slightly below 70 pounds, making him a bit smaller than average boys his age. Due to him not spending any more time outdoors than he has to, he has fair, pale skin, contrasting with his black hair, which he keeps moderately short and neatly groomed. He tends to dress in simple button-up shirts (normally white) and slacks (normally black), sometimes with an old military flight jacket that's much too big for him when its cold. He's also rarely seen without a CD player and headphones, giving him access to music no matter where he is.

While he's a cute kid, Nicholas isn't the easiest person to get along with. While he's very intelligent, he's sorely lacking in social skills, and has difficulty expressing emotions - he has a tendency to be brutally honest, without regard for the feelings of others, and he has little patience for the 'immaturity' and 'stupidity' of kids his own age. As such, he prefers to keep to himself, rarely speaking to people on his own, and even when he does speak, he rarely shows much emotion (outside of varying levels of annoyance).
