History: Matthew is a native New Yorker who started his life from humble origins in Queens. He got all the brawn while his sister got the brains, or so he says, and lacking many career prospects, he joined the army once he gradated high school. He was soon deployed to Afghanistan, where his entire unit was nearly wiped out in an ambush, and indeed he was almost fatally wounded. Then, suddenly, he was visited by an angelic being, who swore to grant him power in exchange for his service. He agreed, and used his newfound abilities to save himself and the surviving members of his unit.

From that moment on, he decided he had been saved by God, and returned home to become a priest. The "angel" he was visited by has not dissuaded him of this notion, and so he dedicates himself to helping others through both mundane and supernatural means.

Personality: Matthew is a large man with a big heart, who believes he has a duty to use his gifts for the betterment of others. He is compassionate, charitable and honorable, and he generally works hard to be a good example to others. That said, however, he wasn't always a priest, and even when he was young he was learning to fight to protect himself. He also has more experience with women than he generally admits to, particularly from his army days, and he generally feigns ignorance when it comes to more taboo matters of sexual intimacy.

Other: Before Matthew was a mage and a priest, he was a soldier and a street brawler. Though he tries to be peaceful, he knows how to throw a punch, and depriving him of his magic would only force him to rely on his other, cruder gifts.
