Lucien Carus

Born on the lower hives of Galloxix, he worked his way up through a relatively small hive-gang known as the "Grey Crows". With the lower-hives constantly being contested by three large rival gangs, the Crows weren’t much of a threat, occupying only small amounts of territory. Lucien not being the best fighter, no one expected him to go far; but what he lacked in martial prowess he made up for in cunning.
After making a name for himself within the Grey Crows, he was approached by Goran Ivaar. Seeing the boy’s potential and realizing he could be his way towards a better life, the two came to an arrangement that Goran would keep Lucien safe from threats to his life as long as he was made Lucien’s right-hand man. Through the use of bribery, blackmail and intimidation Lucien (with Goran’s speciality for violence) assumed Leadership of the Crows within a few years, still not content with his power he began his plan to take over the whole hive.
Every Ganger knows that in the hive gangs, money is power, and on Galloxix the quickest way to get Gelt was through narcotics. So he began targeting every gang’s drug manufacturing plants, by either framing other gangs or tipping off local Arbites. With the help of the curious Tech Adept Zena they were able to locate and hide any evidence of his involvement, remaining in the shadows while the other gangs targeted each other in ever escalating turf-wars. Within a year the three main gangs were at full scale war, transforming the lower-hives into a warzone.
The final part of his plan was making the same deal with each gang in secret. In exchange for showing them the location of a large obscura shipment (he told each gang belonged to one of their rivals), and helping take out the competition the Crows would gain 30% of the territory taken. All Lucien had to do them was plant explosives at the warehouses and wait for all gangs to show up and kill each other, dealing with any survivors in the explosions that followed. Amongst the fiery destruction of large scores of the lower-hive, Lucien finally took his place as kingpin in Galloxix, with the trusty Ivaar always by his side.
Lucien hadn’t realised however that the escalation of the hive-gang wars had caused outside parties to take interest in him. Of course he had planned for retaliation from the remaining gangs in the hive, killing or recruiting hundreds in the weeks following his hostile takeover, but he certainly hadn’t been anticipating major retaliation from elements of the Law, least of all the Emperor’s Holy Inquisition.
A few weeks following the Crows takeover of Galloxix, their enemies made their move. They came during the night, highly skilled and extremely efficient, the regiment of PDF troopers stormed through the lower hives killing any in the path (including more than a few “innocent” bystanders). Within just a few hours they had cordoned off most the lower hive, separating the Crow’s forces and eliminating most of Lucien’s generals. Lucien himself was arrested by a specialized kill-team that stormed his hideout, in a hellish battle causing great losses to both sides.
However they were extremely outgunned, and even Ivaar’s combat prowess couldn’t eliminate such a superior foe. Realising defeat was imminent Lucien ordered his remaining men to stand down. Many were summarily executed, though he and Ivaar were gagged and bound to be taken to an unknown location. It was here that Lucien came face to face with his true nemesis, the ones who had so easily destroyed that which he had spent much of his life building – an Inqisitioral Agent. The man told his life was forfeit, his gang destroyed and his many riches seized, though he was prepared to give Lucien an out – join the inquisition and work directly for the man’s master.
Realising he didn’t have much of a choice, Lucien reluctantly agreed – though he attempted to barter for the lives of a few of his most trusted men to accompany him. Most were dead or dying amongst the wreckage of the lower-hives, though amongst the names of the remaining members of his organisation he spotted an anomaly, Zena the tech specialist. Though not a true part of his gang, he had employed Zena’s services many times throughout his career. With few others of merit remaining along the survivors he managed to secure the survival of his bodyguard Ivaar and the tech specialist Zena.
Thus it was amongst the great cleanse of Galloxix, the greatest lower hive purge the planet had ever witnessed, that Lucien found himself at the mercy of the Inquisition, with nothing to aid him but his lifelong bodyguard and the strange tech adept from his early years, heading through the maelstrom towards the planet Gledd.
