History:

Aksel is from a small town in Minnesota. His parents were middle class and he had two significantly older sisters (11 and 9 years older).  He was not very close to his sisters because they were married and had their own families by the time he was in his middle teens. Growing up he enjoyed riding dirt-bikes and small game (squirrel, rabbit, and peasant) hunting. Aksel also enjoyed playing sports like football, softball, and broomball. Broomball is basically hockey for non-skaters. He also had an interest in military history, mythology, and Arthurian legends. Aksel has slightly above average intelligence (which was noticed while he was in high school). However, due to his middle class status, his parents couldn’t afford to send him to college. Aksel was able to earn a scholarship and attend college on that. While Aksel attended college he studied to become an elementary school teacher. He played intramural sports and also played on the college’s rugby club (where he learned bawdy songs).

After he graduated, Aksel had a hard time finding a job, since there was currently an over-abundance of elementary teacher. So, he volunteered to teach in Africa for the Peace Corps for four years. By doing that, he would gain experience as a teacher and also have his college bills not covered by his scholarship forgiven. So before he had to leave, he had to have vaccinations to protect him from tropical diseases. Unfortunately, during his first year there he contracted a severe case of bacterial gastroenteritis that required a short hospital stay. The next year, Aksel came down with a case of malaria which, again, required a short hospital stay. His fellow Peace Corps members began to consider Aksel quite an unlucky fellow. Incredibly, in his third year in the Peace Corp he contracted yellow fever. Although he was very ill, his strong constitution got him through it. He was developing quite an immune system because of the all of these illnesses!

He returned to Minnesota and found a job teaching 5th grade in a small town elementary school. Of course, working in a school with young children, he was frequently exposed to cold germs, influenza, and the childhood diseases (mumps, measles, and chicken pox). Luckily for Aksel, he had already had those childhood diseases and was immune to them. Because it was a small town, there wasn’t a chance to date (limited number of single females and the gossip dating one of them would cause). He would “party” in another town with his friend Kurt but was never able to meet anyone. Another hobby he acquired was that Aksel likes to camp and hike in the woods. So, sure enough, he also had the experience of contracting and fighting off Lyme’s disease.

When the virus struck, true to form, Aksel was unlucky enough to contract it. However, after what felt like a lengthy illness his body was able to fight off the vaccine. This was because of the tolerance he had built up to viruses and fighting them off.
