Grey Star found the Kai trio in the destroyed future. After saving them from an Agarashi attack he led them to the remains of a house where he filled them in on the events of the future, as well as their enemy the Nadziranim Wizard. He had been waiting and planning for their return since they entered the Shadow Gate and were thrown forward in time. He planned to take them back to the previously closed Shadow Gate near the Monastery which was closed through magics of good, and re-open it temporarily to send them back.

After the group eventually reached the Monastery, the Kai held off the Wizard while Grey Star made final preparations. When he was ready, he forcibly cast the three into the Shadow Gate while he and a Wolf ally they had made, held off the Wizard for the final few moments.
