Bambi Jo "BJ" Hart was a physics student at the University of (sate) at Century Station.  She finished her Bachelor of Science for Physics and was starting her Masters when she got hit with Quantum energies.  She was helping Professor Sylvie Blake run experiments to prove String Theory when something went wrong.  As things were going bad and everyone else was running for their lives, BJ stayed and worked to shut down the experiment before it could explode with catastrophic effect.  She managed to keep the experiment from exploding, but she has been irreversibly changed.  BJ had noticed that she was changing as energies bathed her body, making her tougher, stronger.  At one point she had to get to the ceiling, she reached up and next thing she knew she was at the ceiling.  She didn't really have time to think about anything in the moment as she easily dropped back to the floor to shut down the experiment.  she should have died, instead she became something new.
She went from being 5'2"and 100 lbs who tripped over her own feet to a 6'5" buff athlete who was invulnerable and could fly with wings.

Her bravery in stopping the runaway experiment brought her to the attention of the Century Cadre who convinced her that she could do more good as a heroine than as a physicist and Aquilae was born.

Parents live in Alabama and are religious conservatives, Aquilae is not on good terms with them.
