Aurora

Name: Alison Verault
Hero Alias:  Aurora
Occupation:  Student / research assistant
Character Age:  24
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 131 lbs
Eyes: Grey
Hair: Brown, worn long

Appearance / Persona:   Ali is fit and striking looking, and generally not afraid to make eye contact.    Her demeanor is cheerful, except when it isn't --   she tends to run a bit hot and cold, with no simple way to forecast which you're going to get.    When she's running cold, it usually means she's thinking.   Truthfully, she tends to be something of a pessimist, and this often accounts for the mood shifts.

She is usually dressed casually, though really enjoys an excuse to dress to the nines, now and then.   (Aurora's costume includes a mask, not shown in the image off to the right.)

Skills:  She has the computer, research, and writing skills one would expect of a serious university student.   Majoring in psychology, she has learned something of that subject and field, and it sometimes gives insight into people's behaviors or motives.

Powers / Abilities ::    ((silly science from Marvel wiki))

Flight / Superspeed / Heightened Reflexes:   Via concentration, Aurora can channel a portion of the kinetic energy of the atomic motion in her body’s molecules in a single direction, making her capable of hypersonic flight.      She can also move at comparable speed, faster than normal eyesight can follow.    She possesses reflexes far above the human norm, such she can go through a large house, checking all the rooms, and taking out survivors in seconds.

Enhanced Durability:  An effect of partially robbing her molecules of their atomic motion, the binding forces within and between the molecules increase. This enhances the sheer toughness of Aurora's entire body. It gives her the durability to withstand the ravages of wind, friction, and air turbulence.

Photokinesis:    Done by varying the rate of acceleration of her body's molecules out of phase with one another, so generating a cascade of photonic discharges.    There are a few variations of this --

* Blinding light -  omni-directional, excruciatingly pure light sufficient to temporarily blind most sighted creatures.  Also an effective attack against creatures vulnerable to light, such as the undead.

* Calming light -   a soft, soothing glow that the target feels as emotions and memories that make them at peace - may be used to interrupt telepathic control, in some cases.  (perhaps ironically, she cannot use this to soothe her own emotions)

* Concussive blasts - rays of highly energized photons that strike with a destructive burst.

Limits:  Aurora's energy reserves are not endless.  Prolonged use of her powers will cause her to tire, or become exhausted.

Background:   Alison's father, Lt. Colonel Ethan Verault, is a career officer in the US Army.     An egotistical, cold, domineering man, who demanded perfection of his two children.    Alison handled this by striving to be the perfect daughter, whereas her brother caved under the stress, and became a drug addicted drop out.  Her father's psychological abuse drove her to want to better understand people, and to try and help herself and her brother. Thus, she began studying toward a doctorate in psychology, after she got into college.

Unfortunately, an especially nasty incident of identity theft derailed her life.   Finances drained, credit trashed, she needed money quickly, and found an opportunity that seemed perfect. An altruistic, benign sounding project, for which she was assured she was uniquely qualified.  The heart of which was finally revealed to be an as yet beta-technology, designed to activate the latent meta-gene in those with the right genome. Saying 'no' wasn't an option by then -- imprisoned and sedated, she and five others became test subjects. For Alison and one other, it worked beautifully; the other four died a gruesome death.    The pair barely escaped the installation with their lives, managing to defeat the rogue scientist and his robotic servitors.

In the aftermath, Aurora has been striving to better learn the uses of her powers, as well as put her life back together, and aid her brother Jason to get out of the hole he continues to dig for himself.
