Desiree Diamond

Faceclaim: Nata Lee
Desiree Diamond followed her father into the private detective business, which is only natural when you consider how close she was to her father, Jack Diamond, and being a bit of a tomboy.  Her mother left her father when Desiree was very young, so her father raised her by himself.  Desiree got involved with sports as she went through high school, even got a scholarship to play basketball for Center City University.  Which was a good thing, because while her father was a good detective, it was a rather inconsistent source of income.  Her scholarship paid for her degree in criminology, and she helped her father out in the office as she went through school.  Even though she had a shot at going pro, her love was in solving mysteries and working with her Dad.

Jack was hoping she would apply to the FBI, it had been one of his dreams, to join the FBI.  He had been a local sheriff until politics forced him out and he naturally started his own detective agency to keep doing what he loved. But he wanted his daughter to go further then him, to become an FBI agent and she had the skills to succeed.  Little did he know that Desiree liked being a private detective and avoiding all the hassles of politics that had cheated her father out of his job.  Jack was very proud of Desiree, she always tried to do what was right, even when it got her in trouble.

One day, their happy life got shattered.  Jack was working a divorce case and it went bad.  The cheating wife, Amelia Stone, accidentally shot Jack when she thought he was a peeping tom.  She tried to cover it up, but Desiree jumped into the case while her father was fighting for his life in the hospital.  She quickly found out Amelia Stone was the one who shot her father, but she didn’t have proof and before she could gather it, Amelia escaped to Madagascar, who doesn’t have a extradition treaty with the US.  And to pile bad news on, Jack fell into a coma.

A year later, Desiree is buried under debts; her father still in a coma as she scrambles to pay all the bills while working as a detective.  And her caseload went down, seems a lot of people didn’t want to hire a woman to be their detective.  One day Desiree is working a divorce case.  The case is for one Angela Smith; she made millions starting a jewelry store from scratch and had married a trophy husband, Oliver Smith.  Desiree discovered that Oliver was indeed cheating on Angela, with a woman named Opal Jackson.

As Desiree was taking pictures of Oliver and Opan being intimate, she discovered there was more to this than just a case of a cheating husband. She overheard Oliver and Opal discussing plans to rob Angela’s Jewelry Store and leave the country with their loot.  Desiree was just leaving to inform the authorities, when Oliver and Opal caught her.  They tied her up and tried to bribe her with money to not tell anyone about their plans. Desiree turned them down flat.  Oliver and Opal gave up, fortunately they weren’t killers, and locked Desiree up in a closet and went to commit the robbery now before she could warn Angela or the police.

Desiree got free, they didn’t know how to tie knots.  She immediately called the police, but they didn’t believe her so she chased after Oliver and Opal.  She was in for a rude shock when she got to the jewelry store, Opal had friends in a local gang, and she had recruited them to help with the robbery.  Desiree slammed into the Jewelry store and instead of finding two harmless wannabe robbers waving around guns; she was faced with two wannabes with guns and 3 tough gang bangers.  A stand-off ensued as Desiree tried to talk them into surrendering.

Suddenly Desiree is covered in a soft golden light, her body transforms, fills out, changing from an athletic tomboy into a body that would make a movie star jealous.  One of the gang bangers freaks and fires at Desiree, and miraculously, the bullet bounced off of her.  Getting a surge of confidence, Desiree charged into the fight, subduing the gang bangers before they could shoot anyone else.  After Desiree had laid out all the gang bangers, she found out a bullet had ricocheted and killed Oliver.  About this time the police burst in and arrest the gang.  Opal was dragged away screaming threats at Desiree, blaming Desiree for Oliver’s death.

Desiree was declared as the new heroine of the city for stopping the robbery.  The press plastered her all over the media, they ate up the story of Oliver and Opal’s plans and how they went wrong and how Desiree stopped them.    To make matters worse, the security cameras had caught Desiree’s transformation, and the press covered the TV waves with it.  Desiree was now famous and Diamond Detective Agency had new life breathed into it, Desiree was flooded with cases for awhile.  Desiree could have grown the agency, but she preferred to keep it small, preferring the personal touch.   After awhile her fame receded, but she is always in the gossip magazines, the paparazzi following her cases as much as they can, especially when she gets a high profile one.  While all the attention is ego boosting, Desiree just wants her father to wake up and help her run the Diamond Detective Agency.  And of course all the media attention just causes her trouble as various villains/villainesses challenge her to fights.  People are always trying to shoot her down to enhance themselves.  And when she has time, she is out in the streets helping stop crime, she can't be hurt, so it is only right to protect others who can be hurt.  She feels like her life is a TV soap at times and someone is having fun at her expense.

Little does Desiree know that she has been cast as the main star in an Extra-Dimensional Being’s, EDB for short, show.  EDB finds humans fascinating, they scurry around doing all kinds of fascinating things.  Human female’s are even better, they really embrace drama, it is women that inspire EDB’s favorite shows: 40’s and 50’s film noir, Daytime Soaps, Crime Dramas and Reality shows.  EDB finds these shows to be the epitome of the Human experience and decides to make a show, for EDB’s entertainment.  With real people and real situations!  EDB would combine all of EDB’s favorites into the show!  So it was EDB who subtly guided all the events in Desiree’s life.  It was EDB who gave Desiree her powers, changing her on the genetic level.
