Appearance: There was a time when Emma Montgomery's tall shapely frame was considered exceptionally attractive. She wasn't above using her appearance to mix in circles which could garner information to further her career as an undercover Journalist. To some degree, she's still beautiful, however she makes very little effort in how she looks nowadays as it serves her no benefit. Her natural blonde hair is long simply due to infrequent trims and her fresh faced appearance shows only a hint of minimal make-up when she bothers applying it.

Personality in Brief
Outwardly, Emma's personality adjusts to suit any given situation. She's spent most of her career under the guise of varied personas to get a story. Her true personality is generally quiet and observant and she carries herself with an air of inquisitive intelligence, paying close attention to her surroundings. Although Emma has never lacked any confidence when it comes to conversation, she's an astute listener rather than a talker and can be reserved on the topic of herself, purely because she has no interest nor does it serve a purpose to share.

Flaws:
Once her mind is focused on a specific goal, Emma has a tendency to become obsessive. Much like a method actor, she believes in stepping into the role to truly understand it. One of the first questions she ever asked herself when chasing a story was how can she write about it in any degree of detail without living in the thick of it? Over the years this has put her in some extremely dangerous situations where she's frequently pushed the boundaries of discretion. An example being: When writing a piece on Homeless communities, she spent several weeks living on the streets and in homeless shelters. At times she paid a hefty price for her her dangerous decisions, but rarely has she learned the valuable lessons they offered. As a result, she can't always trust her impulsive behavior and although many hours of rehabilitation and therapy have taught her to recognize those triggers, it doesn't always stop her.

History:

Emma Montgomery had a relatively uneventful and privileged upbringing. Her Mother was and still is an elementary school Teacher and her Father a Solicitor. As a child, she wanted for nothing but always felt something was lacking. Even from a young age, she had a thirst for adventure. As a student, Emma was never satisfied with the normal curriculum, or visiting party locations with her friends for vacations, she wanted to see the less desired places and experience the real world. Much to her Parent's disapproval, instead of attending University after college, she took a gap year to travel South America. Fortunately she returned unscathed, but the eye opening experience urged her to delve deeper in the world around her and she took a degree in Journalism.

Throughout her career, she was never interested in main stream media and the Fake News of the rich and famous. She thrived on the more controversial ad gritty topics, ranging from Political corruption, Terrorism and Gang Warfare, to drug and human trafficking and she soon became renowned within the industry  for her work. She infiltrated unsavory circles to gain inside information and wrote a particularly poignant article on the affects of opiate addiction and how it destroyed the lives of the users and those close to them. Her method of first-hand investigative research resulted in several weeks of expensive rehabilitation for substance abuse, which once again, she used as an outlet to gain information of those under the questionable schemes.

Her relationships, both platonic and sexual were always casual and brief. She never stayed in one place long enough to forge a real connection with anyone. So it came as a surprise when during an awards ceremony, Emma met a Photojournalist named Jonathan. Even more surprising was how quickly their relationship developed and after only four months, Jonathan proposed and Emma accepted. Also committed to his work, what started out as an instant connection of kindred spirits went well at first, but chinks started to appear after the honeymoon period was over and they began to feel the pressure of their chaotic routines. Jonathan wanted them to slow down and start a family, he wanted a wife who wasn't crossing the span of the globe for weeks or months at a time taking needless risks. Emma was initially led to believe he understood and of course, one day she would settle, however at the pinnacle of her career there was always something else on the horizon and she broke promise after promise. It appeared that any quality time they shared was spent arguing and before their differences could be resolved, Emma would leave on her next assignment.

There were were incidences where against her ethical beliefs, instead of reporting her findings to the authorities only for them to be brushed under the carpet, she lived in the belief damning evidence held leverage. It often meant that she was privy to horrifically heinous acts, some of which still haunt her to this day.  Her relationship with her Husband, her Sister and her Parents was almost none existent and that point in her life. For obvious reasons, they worried but no amount of intervention could stop Emma and to preserve their own emotional well-being, they distanced themselves. Needless to say, Emma risked not only her personal integrity, but her own life on countless occasions and it was only a matter of time before her luck would run out.

During an assignment in Syria, Emma was injured in a nearby explosion. Although not directly impacted, she succumbed to shrapnel wounds to her left thigh, an injury to her spine and head trauma. Airlifted to a Military hospital in Baghdad her family were notified and informed that it was unlikely Emma would survive. The Surgery to her spine was successful, and although her left femur was fractured, it wasn't considered serious. The concerning part was the head trauma and Emma remained in a comatose state. It was advised that she be flown back to England for treatment and from there, it was a waiting game. Emma remained in a coma for several weeks, with little hope of ever waking up. As next of Kin, Jonathan was informed that if Emma was to survive, it was highly likely to be with severe disabilities: if not a completely vegetative state. Her Parent's insisted that it would be their Daughter's worst nightmare and it would be kinder to let her go peacefully. Having the final say, Jonathan refused to give up on Emma, despite their differences, he still loved her.

Remarkably, Emma did wake up.  Some temporary memory loss and minor impairments to her speech and motor functions led to months of intensive therapy to treat her Dysphasia and physical mobility. During that time, Jonathan broke the news that he had met someone else. They both knew their whirlwind marriage had been a mistake and she wished him well in his new relationship. There were no ill feelings from Emma, leading her to question if she had ever truly loved him in the first place. From there she was taken in to her Parent's care to recover.

Three years later, Emma has made a full recovery and bought a small modest cottage near a little bay on the Dorset coast several miles from her Parents and where she grew up.  Emma has hearing loss to her left ear and backache if she sits in one position for long periods. In cold weather her left leg can aggravate her and give her a noticeable limp. She suffers from semi-frequent migraines but nothing pain medication and a day of rest doesn't cure. After the incident, she never returned to Investigative Journalism, instead she makes a reasonable Salary from writing magazine articles as a freelance Writer. Ironically, her small cottage suits her current needs. Feeling like she has a home for the first time, she enjoys her own company, loves her settled life and has no plans to travel any time soon.
