During his four years of initial service Drew made somewhat of a name for himself, standing out among his peers. He quickly stepped up in rank from Private to Private First-Class, and again from Private First Class to Lance Corporal. Near the end of his initial service, he made Corporal. Pleased with his performance, and recognizing a bit of his father’s drive, his CO pulled him aside and urged him to consider pursuing a career as an officer in the corps. Drew gave many weeks of consideration to this, and eventually decided to do so. After his initial four-year commitment was up he agreed to serve an additional four years as a Reservist as he attended Gateway University and studied for a Degree in Military Sciences so he could then apply for Officer Candidate School. Once he arrived at Gateway University he took his classwork seriously, and even worked with the Army ROTC program on campus. Nearly four years later, Drew is now nearing the end of his coursework and training. He hopes to finish his degree, move on to OCS, and one day follow in his (now retired) Father’s footsteps as a Marine Officer. |
