THE PHYSICAL

Physical Description: Ben stands at 5’ 9” tall, weighing around 155 lbs. He isn’t necessarily lean, but he certainly makes sure to not slide the other direction. He has wavy red hair, usually jumbled in a purposefully messy manner, and dull green eyes. He often is seen with a bit of stubble, though never progressing into a beard.

A light smirk usually graces the corners of his mouth, speaking volumes about his more snarky nature. He does his best to present an aura of rugged, brooding charm, though often not as successfully as he might like. His choice of apparel, usually consisting of a stylish button down shirt and some form of respectable jacket, might suggest, from a distance, that he comes from money, but, upon closer inspection, it can be fairly easily surmised that many of his clothes are well worn, possibly having been purchased from second-hand shops. On occasion, you might find him in a sweater, knitted with love from his mother. On such a day, he often accompanies his change of attire with a stern look, a clear indication that the home-knit sweater makes him no less rugged or brooding.

Distinguishing Features: Ben always has two things hanging around his neck: first, his camera on its strap, always ready to snap a picture. It’s neither antique or the latest and greatest, but it was what his mother was able to afford a few years back as a gift, and he has treasured it since. Second, he wears a black onyx wolf fang pendant around his neck, given to him by his older sister.

THE PERSONAL

Personality Description: Ben is artistic, or, at least, he would like to think so. He tries to view the world for its beauty, though he has always had so much more luck doing so with nature than with people. People are cruel. They lie, they cheat, they destroy. Nature has no reason to lie, what you see is what you get. The soil, the water, the grass, the plants, the trees, they all work in unison to create a beautiful landscape. He has yet to see mankind attain such honest and beautiful cohabitation, and, as such, he has a hard time finding the desire to build relationships with others.

That’s not to say he dislikes people entirely. He enjoys conversation. He loves to laugh when given the chance, although that more often than not comes from his own sarcasm. Despite seeming less than approachable, especially when he has his camera in-hand, Ben is usually glad to get the chance to learn about others, though perhaps more in the hopes to find the sort of people worthy of the beauty of this earth. However, lasting connections are hard to come by and usually are not worth the effort. He is reserved, usually, focusing on his photography or his gardening, focusing on what beauty he can find or create wherever he is.

Goals: To locate, create, and share the beauty of nature through his photography, his gardening, and now through magic. Not to become a powerful magician, but to learn enough to perhaps make the world that much more beautiful.

Likes: Photography, gardening, music (especially The Beatles), most forms of wildlife, the feel of grass underneath bare feet, and a good, honest laugh

Dislikes: Dishonesty, that noise people call rap music, purposefully rude people (even though that sometimes describes himself), unnecessary destruction of nature for and by mankind

THE BIOGRAPHICAL

Characters History: Benjamin was born the second child of Richard and Margaret Wolfe, both filled with love for each other and their children. Of course, that was a lie, at least it was for his father. When Ben was barely one year old, his father walked out on them. The typical story, went out for some milk and never came back, the story everyone has heard before. Except, no matter how often the story is told, it doesn’t make the resulting situation any easier. His mother was left to care for two children alone, his sister Sammie who was 6 at the time, and himself. He didn’t realize it then, but that was when Ben started to learn why nature was so much more beautiful than people.

Throughout his childhood, his mother constantly struggled to afford the necessities. He watched her struggle and even from an early age recognized how much effort she was putting in. They never had much money, but, through her hard work, they always had enough. Unlike many kids he grew up with, they could never afford cable TV or video games, never had all the new toys, always wore worn out clothing. Because of this, and because he lacked a father, many of the other local children bullied him. His sister was always there for him, a rock for him to turn to when times were tough. She started taking him out on hikes through the woods or to the local parks, showing him the beauty of nature, showing him that, even when times are tough, the world never stops showing its beauty. She often carried a camera with her, showing him how to snap a picture, to preserve that beauty for himself and for them to show their mother, of course.

When he was around 10, Sammie helped Ben set up a small vegetable garden in the hopes that they would have some success and could help their mother with food, at least a bit. To their surprise, Ben had quite the green thumb, all of the plants growing well and providing vibrant, robust vegetables. He kept up the garden, expanding it every year, every year finding increasing success. He wasn’t sure why he seemed to have such a knack for it, but he enjoyed working with the earth, watching the plants grow, and eventually seeing the smile on his mother’s face when the vegetables were ready for harvest.

Not long after his 21st birthday, Benjamin stepped through the door of his local garden shop and found himself on a college campus. Brakebills University, or so said the individual who guided him into a classroom filled with an eclectic assortment of individuals. When told to begin the exam, he did so, unsure of what to make of everything. He completed the exam successfully, conjured a small thunderstorm after much coaxing by the Dean, and was welcomed as a student.
