Astrid is a youngnoblewoman in her 20's, being a direct descendant of the notable hero Sigurd Volsung.  Astrid has a profound sense of justice, which governs her every action. She has an athletic build and her blond hair and bright blue eyes are a trademark of her family line.

Years of rigorous martial training has honed Astrid into peak physical fitness.  Serving in the Grey Rock Militia, Astrid has been trained in a variety of weapons, armour and combat techniques.  Her service includes being stationed at Pariah's Watch, defending the Dragon's Spine Pass from Goblinoid attacks, and escorting ore caravans from the Dun'Muldin mines to the capital city of Brynn.  Being one of the top fighters in her training group, and quickly being promoted up the ranks, it is clear that Astrid takes after her ancestor Sigurd.

Astrid has received religious instruction from the Clerics of Tyr since she was a small girl. After years of study, and her time in the Grey Rock Militia, Astrid chose the path of a Paladin and travelled to ancient citadel dedicated to the sacred martial and magic arts of Tyr, divinely gifted to the world of man by the God of Justice himself.

Although not a secret, the location of the temple, the identity of it's inhabitants and the nature of this knowledge is shrouded in mystery and enigma.  The Citadel of Tyr is the headquarters of the Paladins of Tyr, the Holy Warriors who use divine powers bestowed on them by their patron, the God of Justice.  To be a Paladin, a Holy Warrior of the Gods, is to meet justice, safeguard the helpless, speak the truth always, and fight evil are do no wrong.  These are the exemplars that mark out Paladins.

Astrid is usually seen in her mail hauberk harness, a finely made long sleeve coat, that reaches below the knee. Her metal shield bears the Arms of House Volsung, a pair of crossed axes in front of a Tiwaz rune on a blue field with a white border, matched with her steel battleaxe. Astrid also wears strong leather boots, fine woolen hose, linen shirt and blue woolen hooded cloak.
