A life on the road has always been in the cards for Danielle Moonstar, a fearless spirit whose curiosity will lead her to places she couldn't have even foreseen. On the eve of her 2nd birthday, after her mother's premonition of a great sickness striking her tribe, Danielle and her parents packed very few things they had, and hit the road, in hopes of finding a safe haven on another address. Eventually, after a lengthy trip, the family came across Mr. Sterling's Menagerie and Circus, a traveling circus that was more than happy to invite them to their rooster of stage freaks, seeing the potential monetary value of the mutants' peculiar skillset. Having almost no food, or a sustainable source of income, Moonstars accepted the offer, signing a restrictive contract, whose draconian terms and conditions greatly limited family's freedom of movement and back end charges which rendered their income almost minuscule. At very least, a chance was given to them to live out their life not hiding in the shadows, and to perfect their powers under the spotlights of the circus stage. This, at first glance, inclusive environment built in Danielle a strong sense of comradery with fellow mutants and an appreciation for oddities and uniqueness that each possesses.

The Moonstar family became an overnight sensation, Danielle's mother found great success as a fortune teller, and her father, the animal whisperer, performed day after day, show after show, in front of fully packed tents. Growing up under the tent poles, Danielle was raised in a safe and isolated environment, unconnected to the outside world, leaving the uncertainty of what lies beyond the caravans gnawing at the back of her mind. She honed her skills by working as an assistant to the head magician of the circus, where her powers to project and create illusions earned her the moniker "Mirage". Her professional endeavors came to an abrupt end after a trick gone bad, when Danielle's projections veered on highly unrealistic, startling the audience and  putting the circus members at risk of having their true identities investigated and brought to light sooner or later. Tired of being scolded, and having the use of her powers limited by her superiors, once Danielle heard that the circus was heading to New York, she seized the opportunity to leave her life on the wheels behind in pursuit of more adventures and experiences in the big city.
