CDR D'rala Vex
D'rala Vex
D'rala Vex is an Orion woman in her early thirties who is working hard to rise in the ranks of Starfleet. Like most Orions, she primarily goes by her given name.
Embodying the Orion concept of Cluros is one of D'rala's greatest guiding principles. Cluros is a code of conduct which some Orion's place a great stake in. Its primary principles involve self control in the face of great trial and honor in combat .
D'rala resents the common galactic stereotypes that people apply to Orions, particularly Orion women, and she wants to prove herself, as well as positively represent her people to the galaxy. Drala chooses not to utilize her natural ability to exude influential pheromones, believing that using such abilities on unsuspecting non-Orions is unethical and dishonorable. Although many Orions would not agree with her, to Drala, properly adhering to Cluros means putting such deceptive tactics aside. She's also very strongly against the Orion slave trade (both of their own people and of other species).
Drala was born in the Orion system in the early 2250s. She was born to a middle class family who worked in (mostly) reputable avenues. When she came of age, she spent a couple years in Orion higher learning, but felt increasingly disenchanted and out of place with her life path, as well as the social and political situation in the Orion (Rigel) system. Being overtaken by a great sense of aimlessness, she abandoned her old plans for the future. Eventually, she realized her calling was to leave the system all together and explore the other ways of life among the stars. She wanted to be able to take an active hand in ending galactic corruption, which led her to apply to the Starfleet Academy.
D'rala started her Starfleet career specializing in Security, but has aspirations of a Captain's chair. She practices the Orion martial art of Tatharic (colloquially referred to by humans as "Rigellion Karate").
