Annie was born in Montreal in 1984, the youngest of five siblings born to
Patrice Theroux, a structural engineer and Marie-Claire Theroux (née Reilly)
a lecturer in Biochemistry at McGill University and part of a research team
working on the Human Genome sequencing project.  She's 23 years old (as of May 2007) and five feet six inches tall and 120 pounds, which means she is hovering just above the line separating thin from malnourished.

She grew up in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, an on-island suburb of Montreal.  Her
upbringing was a conventional middle class upbringing with her parents,
especially her mother, encouraging her to read physics, chemistry and maths.
She went along with this until she was 13 and then wham.  She rebelled by
taking up the cello and throwing herself into music.  Her teachers were
highly impressed by her natural ability especially as she had no musical
background but her parents were not so impressed.

She obtained a scholarship to Juillard and at that point, her father at
least was proud.  Unfortunately, events were about to lead to him being
just as disappointed as was her mother.

She models much of her style on Kathleen Hanna of Le Tigre (formerly Bikini
Kill) a very outspoken singer and part of the Riot Grrrl movement.



Thus she tried to wear her black hair in an Audrey-Hepburn style chignon,
which sadly doesn't work too well with Annie's frizzy hair and falls apart
so now she wears dreadlocks twisted into weird shapes on top of her head,
more like Ari Up from the Slits.


Needless to say her parents hate this.  Her father wishes she'd settle down,
wear dresses and get a life.  Her mother on the other hand is of course
more concerned that she decided to major in music rather than a proper
scientific subject.  Both of them are even more upset because she dropped
out of Juillard to form this band with her crazy friend Kiki Godzilla.





Kiki is the singer in the band, Monstres Célèbres along with Annie and the
Mayhem Twins, Gail and Katrina.  The twins are both tall, willowy redheads
and are in fact identical twins.  They tend to dress in understated denim
on stage and make robotic movements in counterpoint so that when Gail's
drumsticks rise from the skins, Katrina's hand moves down, strumming the
guitar strings.  Meanwhile, Kiki and Annie are very much opposites.
Where Annie wears black dreadlocks, Kiki has shaved her head.  Where Kiki
paints her face metallic bronze to match Annie's shoes, Annie leaves her
skin with its natural beige-to-olive shade.  Where Annie wears a
bronze-coloured sheath dress with matching high-heels, Kiki wears the torn
remains of bright red motorcycle leathers that seem to have survived dozens
of accidents (they haven't as far as she knows, she bought them that way).
Where Annie stands perfectly still on stage, Kiki moves like a dervish.
