Thomas Marshall

The Basics

 Name: Thomas Marshall
Nickname: None, although some people jokingly call him "Pastor"
 Species: Human
 Gender: Male
 Age: 26

The Physical

 Height: 6'2"
 Weight: 185 lbm
 Hair Color: Black
 Eye Color: Gray
Distinguishing Features: Nothing normally seen, although he has a share of scars on his body from various fights.

Physical Description: His hair is kept short, if a bit untidy. The scruff on his chin often goes overlooked. His skin is tanned from constant travel and he does have a thinner looking frame, mostly from the constant work and sometimes infrequent meals. He keeps his clothing simple as he finds himself changing wardrobes from damage a lot. Typically, he prefers jeans or khakis with a simpler button-up long-sleeve shirt.

 Alternate Form Description: Not applicable
Under The Hood

Personality: He has a kind personality, always trying to bring out the best in people. He does not try to elevate himself above anyone, nor does he feel he has anything to prove. He walks humbly, recognizing his faults and trusting in God to help see him through.

Goals: He does not make long term goals, trusting in the plans set in front of him as best as he is able. Currently, he feels he is drawn to NY for a purpose. He does want to try to find a friend or partner. The Knights are still stretched a little thin, and it is always more rewarding to assist an ally in need.

Fears: He fears losing people. Both physically and metaphysically. Even though he rest safe in the knowledge that all things are still in God's hands, it does not mean the fear never comes.

Talents

Mundane Skills: He has studied a variety of close-quarters combat, both hand-to-hand and with his sword. Outside of that, he has learned how to shoot guns. He knows how to maintain each of his weapons.

 Powers (Faith):
 - Touched by Grace: Thomas is overflowing with a gentle grace from his faith. As such, undead and other similar denizens are burned at his touch. His Faith in future Grace sustains him through tough times and serves to push him beyond his limits.
 - Faith is my Shield: His Faith lends him an astounding determination and will, providing him a strong barrier to mental domination. In a lesser extent, his faith guides his movements to lessen his chances of being hurt.
-Guided by the Light: Thomas has an uncanny sense of being where he needed most. Whether by prayer or by direction from an angel, he seems to be able to find where he needs to go.
-Amoracchious: The sword is a long, double-edged single blade, approximately 46" inches in length. Combined with the hilt and pommel, it measures nearly five feet in length. The blade is straight, tapering to a point starting about two-thirds of the way up. The wire wrapped hilt is slightly extended, allowing it to be wielded with one or two hands comfortably. The blade, cross guard, and pommel are unadorned with any decoration, except for a small piece of squared metal where the blade enters the hilt, which extends into the hilt.
While empowered by his Faith, Thomas may use this blade to slay any foe. The blade amplifies his own physical prowess to meet the needs of the task at hand. There are several stipulations to this gift. He must never draw the weapon in anger or in vengeance, he must never betray his Faith, and he must never draw the blood of the innocent. Anyone else attempting to draw the weapon will find it stuck firmly in its sheath or will find it awkward and unwieldy.

Vulnerabilities: He might be a holy Knight, but he is still a human

Organizations/Factions: Knight of the Cross, wielder of Amoracchius

Questions: (meant to help further immerse you into the world)
  1. What are you doing in New York, and how have you fared since arriving?
Answer: Thomas felt called to New York. Since he started working for the church, he has been fairing fine. His job and position are not glamorous, but it allows him the freedom to take off at a moments notice as his duties demand.

  2. You've just spotted a human getting mugged across the street. Before you can react, the victim suddenly begins to shift, changing into what can only be described as a werewolf and assaults the mugger. What do you do?
Answer: Breathing out a small prayer, Thomas crosses the street, confronting both werewolf and mugger. He will attempt to deescalate the confrontation, recognizing that the mundane mugger will probably need to visit one of the local parishes one this is done.

  3. You've been accused of a crime you didn't commit, and are currently being interrogated by one of New York's finest. How do you go about convincing them of your innocence or, if all else fails, breaking free?
 E. Thomas has maintained a clean record since his conversion and has gone to greater lengths to stay on the narrow path. He does not laugh at or berate the officer. Instead, he simply answers each question honestly, recommending the officers also talk to others to verify his claims. If Thomas has no alibi for this specific case, he will trust in the Lord, recommending they talk to the people who know him best.

  4. What does your day-to-day look like? What can you be found doing on an average day?
Answer: Average and day-to-day do not describe most Knights. He has several duties he preforms at the Church when he is not away, mostly from a janitorial perspective (i.e. vacuuming the building, cleaning the bathrooms, taking out the trash), but these typically happen early in the morning during the week and in between morning and evening services. Sometimes he gets a call for an odd job during the day. If he is not needed for a task, he works out and trains to maintain his form and strength. He prays regularily and studies his Bible when he can, usually in the morning at his favorite coffee shop.

Backstory: Thomas Marshall was born to Drake and Mercy Marshal in a small town in CT, near the sea. His life was fairly unremarkable for the most part. He got good grades, played a few sports and tried to live up to his father's image. At some point, a girl he liked, Kelly Daniels, invited him to her church group. His family wasn't particularly religious, and considered themselves non-thiests, not really caring one way or the other. He didn't really get the message and largely walked out afterwards without a second glance back. Kelly kept inviting him time and time again, and for the most part he would go. In his Junior year of High School, Kelly was diagnosed with leukemia. Even still, Kelly, continued to invite Thomas to her group, kept trying to tell him the gospel. It began to make Thomas slightly angry how she could continue to speak so highly of God, continue saying that "his plans are not ours". She eventually did die during the end of their Senior Year, giving Thomas a Bible of his own as a parting gift. He nearly through that book in the Thames to be lost a long with her memory. He left town after graduation, furious and not really knowing where to go, just that he had to leave. He came across a small park and sat down on a bench overlooking the ocean. As he thinking about his future, he could hear a voice singing to him from the water. Kelly's voice. It was a sick joke, he thought. Punishment for him. Then the mist began to coalesce and a figure stepped out. Kelly. Without a strip of clothing on. Something sparked in the back of his mind. This couldn't be her. Even as this thing began to sing in her voice, a tendril snaked its way though his mind. He found himself standing on his own volition and walking toward the figure promising something he thought he would never have. He prayed for the first time as he continued taking steps, "God, I can't stop... please. Help me." A second figure stepped into his view, old and hooded, drawing a sword and charging the figure. The Knight slew the Siren without much trouble that day, but something had changed. The Knight, calling himself Decker, helped Thomas to his feet, brushed him off to send him on his way. Thomas and Decker both saw a small spark leap from the sword to Thomas's hand, something which caused Decker to breath a small sigh, a mix between sadness and relief. He explained who he was, saying that he feels called to train Thomas to relieve him. Something Thomas agreed to, much to his own surprise. He became a Christian a few months later and after a couple of years, Decker passed him Amoracchius. A third figure appeared behind him, a figure in a suit named Malachi. He simply congratulated Thomas, reminding him of the responsibility he now bears before departing. Ever since, Thomas has been departing for short missions where he can, finding comfort in whatever odd jobs he takes for small periods. His parents can hardly believe it themselves, but have largely kept their opinions to themselves.
