Lucas Flamel

Name: Lucas Flamel
  Nickname: "Luke" is just fine
  Species: Human
  Gender: Male
  Age: 28

The Physical

Height: 5' 10"
  Weight: 125 lbm
  Hair Color: Sand Blonde
  Eye Color: Green
  Distinguishing Features: Nothing specific

Physical Description: Luke is very pale and thin, from someone who spends far too much time in a library or laboratory. He doesn't have much in the way of a build either, although he doesn't appear to be out of shape. His clothing is usually a trend behind the modern one, often wrinkled or disheveled from mistreatment, but always clean. His eyes may have bags from lack of sleep, but they are always sharp.

Alternate Form Description: Not really applicable.

Under The Hood

Personality:

Goals: He is simply picking up where Nicolas left off in terms of his research, after he has come to terms with the knowledge he was gifted with. The continued deciphering of Abremilin's Journal is another long term goal. In the short run, he just wants to be of some value to somebody while he waits for another assignment from Svartalfhiem as payment for services rendered.

Fears: Going mad, breaking his pact with the Svartalves, killing someone

Talents

Mundane Skills: His field of study delves into the intricacies of the physical and magical sciences. Even though it primarily delves into the later of the two, he has a vast grasp on the theories of both and on the practical points where the intersect. More recently, he's devoted a lot of his research and study into medicine, trying to help everyone with whatever knowledge he can. He's also quite a good cook and amateur distiller. He has an incredibly intelligent mind, and can take in large amounts of information. Of course, he does have a problem forgetting things, so he remembers a lot of insignificant bits of information as well, which can get in the way of getting to the important bits.

Powers:-Minor Talent: Like his Master before him, Luke would officially be cast firmly in the minor talent category due to not being able to use Evocation or Thaumaturgy. However, his talent and proclivities for Alchemy and, to a lesser extent, Enchantment are massive. He infuses his creations with his aura to produce magical effects. He also has performed many of the wonders his Master Nicolas himself performed, although not to the same extent. While many wizards have some degree of talent with regard to this, very few have been taught to the same extent.

Vulnerabilities: Outside of being a normal human(okay, so normalish), he still has problems of other similar talents. He can still use some basic technology, but, this is largely conjecture on his part, he doesn't seem to disrupt it in the same fashion as a wizard or their like. Nothing seems to break around him, but he can't exactly say that the flicker of lights, or a sputter of an engine isn't him.

Society Info

Length Of Time In New York: 2 years

Occupation: He's primarily on retainer for his services, but he does run an off the books research laboratory and clinic for injured or curious supernaturals.

Organizations/Factions: He is on retainer for the Svartalves, carrying on in approximately the same capacity as his Master before him. Although, who is actually receiving the things he makes and the help he provides is unknown to him.

  Questions:
  1. What are you doing in New York, and how have you fared since arriving?
Answer: Currently, he is in New York because this is Path that takes the shortest time for the Svartalves to reach him. Or maybe it's just a place they would rather meet him. Either way, as he lacks the ability to access the NeverNever without the help of them or someone else, he stays where they tell him to. So far, no one has really taken notice of him, and the few supernatural he has helped were not local. There is the chance that they were lying to him, but he never really cared in the first place.

  2. You've just spotted a human getting mugged across the street. Before you can react, the victim suddenly begins to shift, changing into what can only be described as a werewolf and assaults the mugger. What do you do?
Answer: Nothing. For the moment, the situation appears to be handling itself. Of course, medical help might be required, and a small lecture on the importance of discretion for the werewolf. Oh dear, now I'm starting to sound like Him.

  3. You've been accused of a crime you didn't commit, and are currently being interrogated by one of New York's finest. How do you go about convincing them of your innocence or, if all else fails, breaking free?
  C. Do nothing. Refuse to answer any questions and request an attorney. I'll need to defend my honor vigorously when the time comes, but saying anything would only incriminate me further.

  4. What does your day-to-day look like? What can you be found doing on an average day?
Answer: Everyday starts differently, based on if there are any patients he is currently looking after. Otherwise, he follows a schedule sort like this. Moring coffee, research/experiments, continued notes on the natural/supernatural worlds, continued attempts with the Journal, ending with a nice meal. Boring, only interrupted with calls for help or service demands.

The Juicy Bits

Backstory: Lucas was an unwanted pregnancy who grew up in the foster care system for seven years of his life before Nicolas Flamel found him. He saw something in Lucas, something he would later call a compatibility between their two auras. Using whatever resources he had access to and pulling all kinds of strings behind the scenes, Nicolas adopted him and immediately started an intense and meticulous training. He allowed Luke to attend normal school as well, although the studies their were pathetic compared to the ringer he was receiving at home. Still, Nicolas stressed that it was important not to lose sight of the mundane world. The rest of the world seemed trivial, but there were certain points and miracles surrounding the simplicity of nature and life. Life was a vital part of magic, according to him, and the study of Alchemy was the study of how they all fit together.
Despite his best efforts, Nicolas was not a good Father figure and resented assuming that title, continuing to call Luke his Apprentice and insisting he be called Master or Teacher instead. One thing Luke began to notice over his time with him was how quickly his hair was graying. When he was taken in, Nicolas sported a full head of dark-brown hair and a short beard to match, but not ten years later, his hair was nearly completely white. Nicolas continued to push his schooling, all but forcing him to graduate from college a whole year early. When asked, he would say something about it being easy to hide behind a degree.
On his 21st birthday, he was given a formula and a challenge. Make a Philosopher's Stone. It took Luke the better part of two months with minimal sleep and several failed attempts before he was finally able to withdraw from his crucible the completed product, a single opaque, impossibly smooth golden pearl. Nicolas looked it over carefully, before satisfying himself with the stone by breaking it over a lead ingot, observing the transmutative process as the lead turned to gold. He let out a heavy sigh and finally laid all his cards on the table. He didn't adopt Luke out of the goodness of his heart initially, although he was his best student. He was trying to pass on his knowledge and legacy to someone and Luke was the best candidate. He was simply tired of the world. Immortality, or as close as he managed, was boring. There wasn't much that he couldn't obtain and he lacked any kind of purpose after the death of his wife a few centuries ago. Once he found Luke, he saw someone who could take up his work. He asked him if he would continue with a challenge that he had only barely scratched the surface of. Pulling out a small book of leather bound vellum, old and slightly cracked, he held it out to Luke. This was the Journal of Abremilin the Mage, written in such a convoluted code that, even with almost seven hundred years of study and research, Nicolas had barely decoded half of it. However, he was tired and done with this world, but Abremilin's book and it secrets must not be lost. Luke took it and, much to his own surprise, said he would.
If he realized what he just accepted, Luke might have changed his answer. This commission that he took was witnessed by the Svartalves, who were willing to grant sanctuary to Nicolas if Luke had agreed. However, Luke was required to go with them to Svartalfheim for a small period of time. They worked out a formal agreement and a sort of service contract. On his honor, they would make requests for things like they had done with Nicolas from time to time. In return, Nicolas would be looked after until his eventual passing. There were a number of other duties and responsibilities he had to preform while in Svartalfheim itself in return for a rudimentary knowledge in enchanting, during which Nicolas did eventually die in his sleep.
Returning to the mundane world, he quickly made enough money to establish himself with a simple dwelling and adopt a new routine. He was surprised to learn how little time passed in this realm compared to what passed in the NeverNever, but precious metals were still valuable. He only keeps himself on the edge of comfortable, wanting to stay out of sight while remaining in good standing with his patrons.
