Stewart Volkov

The Basics

Name: Stewart Volkov
Nickname: Stew, Stewie (hates both)
Species: Sorcerer…maybe Warlock, maybe not?
Gender: Male
Age: 24

The Physical

Height:
Weight: 160 lbs
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Brown
Distinguishing Features: A scar that runs from the top of his rib cage (left side) down to his hip, tattoo of a fox on his right shoulder, tattoo of a dragon skeleton on his back right side and a tattoo on his left forearm that says ‘dream by day’ in Russian.

Physical Description: Stewart is not an intimidating person by any means but that doesn’t mean he isn’t in shape. His body type has always been more on the scrawny side of things, he eats like a horse but looks like he eats like a bird. He has a slight limp when he walks, a result of the injury that caused the scar on his left side that he was unable to heal due to the weapon that made it. He dresses casually in jeans rotating out a small collection of faded tee shirts, flannels and hoodies when he’s not at work.

Alternate Form Description: N/A

Under The Hood

Personality: He's quick-witted, comical and outspoken. Sarcasm is his best defense. Earnest to help others when he can, his caring nature tends to put him in dangerous situations. He has trouble keeping his thoughts or attention on a single path, jumping from point to point in a way that makes sense to no one but him. He’s a little hyper active and awkward, people don’t tend to notice him unless he’s annoying the crap out of them. There might be a little bit of bitterness that he holds on to making his view of the world slightly jaded but most of the time he keeps that bitterness to himself.

Goals: Not to kill anyone…else?

Fears: Werewolves, spiders, dolls

Talents

Mundane Skills: Having an old Jeep, he’s always had some mechanical skills and can fix about anything with duct tape. He’s also really good at eavesdropping, a skill he picked up in his youngers years as his dad talked to doctors outside of his room.

Powers: Other than the standard abilities of practitioners (minus the handy, better healing part), he’s great at thaumaturgy and has always been a little more connected to the dead than he would like. His mother had left behind for him all her journals and he’s been teaching himself, most of what he knows is self-taught though he did have a “friend” right before going into the mental institute that had guided him more towards the dark arts using him to aid him with curses. At times his craft can be looked at as dangerous and malicious, when it does Stewart has trouble remembering his actions.

Vulnerabilities: He doesn’t heal any better than an average human, he can aid his healing but in order to do so he has to draw life energy from something else and since he’s not super fond of harming or killing living things (most of the time), he suffers silently. His mental issues make him vulnerable at times when he’s low on energy from lack of sleep, his mind gets clouded and he has even more trouble focusing which can make his spells take a turn. There are also his blackouts, when the dark part of him takes over. Though it’s not a frequent occurrence, it worries him because anything could happen and he only gets bits and pieces of those memories back.

The Juicy Bits

Backstory: His mother died of cancer when he was twelve leaving his father to raise him alone. They didn't have any close relatives so it became just the two of them looking out for each other, because of this he lived under strict rules but he didn't ever really mind. As a child and into his teenage years, he didn’t have a lot of friends. He started having night terrors, which typically only happened with younger children but for some reason his started later in life and then came the sleep walking. His father became aware of it after finding Stewart asleep in the backyard for the second time, the first his excuse had been amazing but the second time he wasn’t as quick with one.

He was a brilliant kid but because of his hyperactivity and scattered thoughts, a lot of people didn't quite get him as he got older. He had one or two people that were close to him but that was because he was embarrassed to have that discussion over his sleep walking issues. Not that he was invited to a lot of sleep overs but then he purposely stayed disconnected enough so that he wasn’t. It wasn’t until he reached the teenage years that it became apparent that he was a witch, something his father had hoped didn’t carry on from his mother but to Stewart’s surprise, it had. His father passed along a box of journals and things that his mother had left behind, instructions as she had put it.

After high school, he went to college even though he would have been fine with a vocational school, his father pushed him to do more and not feel prohibited because of the sleep walking and witchy stuff. He moved out of his dad’s house and found himself a small apartment not far away from campus so he wouldn’t have to deal with the whole roommate situation. After moving into the city Stewart quickly found a group of friends, some more acquaintance but it was at least people he knew or say he knew. Taking a job at a local auto shop, he was happy with his life. He joined a bowling league, started going to parties, clubbing...yeah, clubbing as awkward as that was for him. It didn't help with his sleeping problems and he'd wondered if it might have made him worse. He was sleeping less and less doing damage to his health both physically and mentally. After graduating college, he got a job working as a forensic analyst for the police station. He still had the same problems, but they were getting worse.

He stopped visiting his dad so he wouldn’t ask questions but spoke to him weekly on the phone to keep the old man from showing up at his apartment door to see the sunken eyes and pale complexion he’d wore. Strange things started happening that he couldn’t account for, he was waking up in odd locations that were far away from his apartment and his Jeep was always nearby meaning that he was now driving while asleep. One morning he woke to find his hands and shirt covered in blood, a day later the news reported on a couple that had gone missing in the woods, woods that he had woken up in the day before. It got so out of control that he admitted himself to a mental health rehab center, nuthouse or looney bin was more like it. Quitting his job he spent six months trying to get himself in order, it had been hell but he was convinced it was worth it. Once he was out, Stewart decided that he needed to put some distance between his father and himself in order to keep him from having to be involved with a son that was #1 a witch and #2 may have murdered someone. With that, he moved to New York after the last lieutenant he was under gave him a recommendation for the transfer.

It's been a few interesting six months while Stewart tried to adjust to a new life and take the precautions he felt were needed to make sure he didn’t start walking up covered in blood.
