Basil

Name: Basil
Age: Forgotten a long time ago
Gender: Male
Height: 5' 1"
Weight: 100 lbs
Eye Color: Bright Emerald Green
Hair Color: patches of red and black but mostly dirty blonde
Description: Most Dark Sidhe like Basil tend to take on a fair appearance, maintaining themselves to the point where most people would consider them to be beautiful. Apparently he missed that memo. If it weren't for the opulent jewels he wears around his neck and every finger it would be understandable why most people would think this man was homeless. His eyes are sunken, his feature are gaunt and his hair is dirty and unkempt, clumped together in places. He is also oddly short for a Sidhe and that combined with the patches of red matted hair have led many to wonder if the man is part leprechaun, though those who know Basil's reputation has learned not to speak this theory aloud as his reaction to such an idea can be violent.

Face Claim: Tim Minchin

Unseelie Subspecies: Sidhe

Vice: Over the last few centuries Basil has gorged himself with the rise of modern capitalism and doing so far has caused him to become slightly unhinged.

Prey: Basil feeds upon the surge of emotion that comes from the sudden loss of possessions or wealth.

Gifts: All Fae have the ability of Glamour. In weaker Fae, this allows them simply to blend in. To make their non-human appendages look human. In stronger Fae, this allows for them to change their appearance entirely, or in some cases, to make themselves appear in places where they are not.

Basil is also a natural born gambler. He has a natural predisposition towards games of chance. Those who don't know his reputation often try to claim that he is simply a cheater but it is much more than that. He refuses to play games in an unfair manor but over the centuries he has learned to mess with the emotions of those he plays against, exuding his will in a way that tends to lead people towards avarice and greed, causing them to make decisions they wouldn't make otherwise.

Weaknesses: All Fae find death in iron. Mixed iron weapons are less effective, but will require the assistance of magic to heal. Death is called the Fade. Many things may cause Fading, starvation being one of them. If Fade is being caused by being pulled away from their bonded ties, it onsets after three days. Every day after becomes worse, the Fae becoming weaker and more transparent until they cease to be. It is a painful process and many are driven by their fear of Fading.

Additionally Basil has grown accustomed to a life of leisure and has not had to go hunting for a meal for a very long time. Prior to the flares on Earth mostly he would stay in one place enjoying his non-stop feasting, only interrupting his meals when something interested him. Now that his food source has been severely cut down he has become jittery and rash. This in part could be related to his gambler's nature but this leads to make quick snap judgements when irritated, leading him to take large risks he wouldn't otherwise.

Personality: Basil is an often off-putting being. His meticulous mind is often thinking about several things at once, easily distracted by the most random of stray thoughts. At points he seems distant and unfocused while at other times it seems like it all might be a ruse with how he seems to be constantly plotting. It is rare to see this man without some degree of smile on his face though when presented with a challenge or, even better, a game he can become extremely cold and calculating.

History: Basil has gone through countless names and personas over his countless centuries of life. For longer than he can remember he has spent his life on two things to help satiate his appetite. To maintain a steady diet while working on earth he often found himself as the head of gambling rings of every sort. Simple games of chance, races and sporting events, fighting rings involving both beast and man. Anywhere he could find people spending and losing coin would be heaven to a man like Basil. On the side though he stayed hard at work preparing his "Feasts", involving himself with the inner workings of financial and ruling empires, assuming several forms with his glamor to help raise their standing to their highest peak while simultaneously sabotaging them from the inside, waiting for the perfect moment to bring the whole thing crashing down, drinking up the horror and sadness that came from the humans as everything they owned was reduced to rubble.

He would follow this cycle for a long time, so long that he lost track of how many times he followed that path. Or maybe it was the rise of American Capitalism and Greed and what happened to him as an after effect caused him to simply forget, his mind to preoccupied to properly recall. Using every plot and tool at his disposal he was one of the founding members amongst other Fae to raise one of the greatest cities built around greed, sin and personal wealth; Las Vegas. As the casinos were built and hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of humans poured into the city to lose all of their hard earned possessions Basil did something that before he would have considered a Cardinal sin. He got lazy. He would spend years upon years never leaving his suites, often times never getting out of bed unless someone felt foolish enough to challenge the King of Chance. His attitude towards his work became slothful, Feasting unendingly, only leaving his city for short trips to places like Wall Street, claiming he only left because the sorrow there tasted different. It was during these decades that his mind started to wander and many would say this is when it got lost.

Everything changed though when the flares began. He didn't initially notice what was going on until he felt the sorrow and sadness filling his city change to the type he could no longer consume. As his source of food fled so too was he forced to leave the kingdom he had helped build back to Umbrea, a place he hadn't visited in a very, very long time. As the panic subsided Basil was forced to find a new source of food. Greed was still a thing in Umbrea and the food he needed to sustain himself was still available but it was nothing compared to the paradise he had left behind. The stress of the transition caused something in Basil's mind to finally snap, leaving a broken Fae to pick up the pieces of his psyche. Eventually he would manage to rebuild a bit, creating himself an impressive gambling den within the city of Scathos. It did the job of providing the man with a way to keep himself alive but in the back of his mind he still wants to regain the power he once had.
