When Brit girl Barbara Wells learned she'd been awarded a full ride, study abroad scholarship, her heart leapt.  The opportunity to pursue her archaeology degree at sunny California's prestigious Stanford University was more than a dream come true.   She was certain her parents - who'd died tragically in a plane crash some years earlier - must have been smiling down on her. And things only got better, after she graduated summa cum laude, being offered a place in the prestigious Howard Carter Archaeological Society, in the years just preceding the war.   This led to being hand picked by Dr. Alvin Strottenholm - one of the Society's most honored, most ambitious members - to be part of a very special expedition into Tibet.

Dr. Strottenholm's ambitions were indeed strong, more so than any of his team could have guessed.   He was after a very special, particular artifact --  one he imagined would be his to take. However, the ring was never meant for him, and - through what seemed at first to be an accident -  found its way onto the finger of the one who had the compassion, the character, and the will to use it in the way it was made to be used:  as a light to pierce the darkness that had fallen with the advent of a second World War.
