Claire Carmichael

Description
Claire is a fiery, red-headed anthropologist's assistant that likes to get her way.  Having a strange penchant for the supernatural at a young age, she has an unquenchable curiosity and an open mind.  She is of average build and slightly above average height with blue eyes and freckles.  She is constantly searching for others who have had supernatural experiences or who might have answers to help her understand her own.

Background
Claire was raised by a somewhat wealthy family that had come over to England from Scotland a generation or so back.  Her parents didn’t like to talk about their family history and made sure that Claire had a solid English education.

When Claire was small, she was outside playing and noticed a lady beckoning her by the hedge.  She chased the lady through the woods but never seemed to find her.  When she told her parents about the lady at dinner, they talked in hushed tones and scolded her for telling lies.

She continued to see the woman throughout her childhood, but was punished if she ever mentioned it to her family.  As soon as she was old enough, she was ferried away to grammar school.  But just before she left, she saw the lady again.  This time a man was with her.  She chased them through the garden, through the house, and into the attic.  Like all the times before, they disappeared without a trace.  As she was pouting and scuffing her feet around the attic, she found a dusty old book.  There was a crest on the front;  a hand holding a broken spear and the phrase “Tout Jour Prest”.  Inside were pages filled with text, diagrams, and drawings, but not in a language Claire could read.  She secreted the book away with her wherever she went.

In grammar school, Claire learned French and Latin with great hopes it would help her read the book she found.  But the contents were not in either of those languages.  However the crest portion translated to: “Always Ready”.

After grammar school, she became an assistant to Thaddeus Thistlewright, a professor of anthropology from the University of Oxford.  Claire would read over his notes and sneak into as many lectures as possible.  Professor Thistlewright was a great mentor to Claire and always included her in his circle of academics.
