Kurt Masterson is a retired, widowed multibillionaire without any heirs or surviving blood relatives. He's known throughout the world for being a self-made entrepreneur and wise investor, starting in his youth as a farm-hand and taking wild risks on stocks and investments that paid off. His wife passed away thirty years ago on his 50th birthday and he never remarried. The couple never had children, and with billions of dollars to spend and nobody to spend it on, he turned his focus on charity work and philanthropy. After the passing of the Vigilante Act, Kurt Masterson created the Metahuman League, an organization dedicated to fighting crime, fighting for metahuman rights, and giving focus to troubled metahumans in need of a purpose.

Despite being known to be a philanthropist and charitable man, Masterson is also known for being gruff and telling offensive jokes at the expense of others. Of course, those who would spend time around him would soon learn that this was his way of showing affection.

Masterson was in the news five years ago for electing to have his right hand amputated and replaced with a highly advanced prosthetic. He claimed that the arthritis in his joints was so overwhelming he had contemplated suicide. After the prosthetic was attached, he claimed it was a dark joke and there was no need to worry. The transhuman community holds this action in high esteem, as he forgoes the "Faux Flesh" treatment that simulates flesh used commonly on SAI to keep in solidarity with the growing Transhuman population.
