Known Background:
The man who would become Jack Random was a standout athlete at West Rome High School in the smallish city of Rome GA. He was a star player for the Chieftains in Baseball, Football, and especially Wrestling where he won three state championships while under the tutelage of Theodore "Ted" Alan Lipscomb. Lipscomb was better known by his professional name "The Nightmare" Ted Allen and was a feared Catch-as-Catch-Can wrestler within the business of Professional Wrestling. While the more brutal maneuvers of Catch Wrestling were illegal in school folk style competition the training allowed Jack to power through other kids like a dozer losing only 3 matches in 3 years of varsity competition. In the south in 1962 wrestling didn't create a lot of college opportunities and so he attended The Citadel on a football scholarship where he participated in the Navy ROTC program. He had completed an associates degree before the 1964 Gulf of Tonkin Incident drew his attention to the Vietnam War and he petitioned to be moved to active duty.
Once in the Navy Jack became acutely aware of the Navy SEAL teams and successfully focused his efforts on becoming a member of the UDT/SEALs. In 1966 he became a member of SEAL Team 2 and deployed to Vietnam for the first time.
In Vietnam Jack thrived on the life of a brown water frogman and wreaked mayhem on the enemies of the United States to the degree that he gained the attention of the CIA's Military Assistance Command, Vietnam-Studies and Observations Group who recruited him in late 1968. He found he liked life as a MACV/SOG operator even more than he had as a SEAL and continued to serve in that capacity until the end of the Vietnam War in 1972.
Briefly adrift after The Nam he was soon recruited to come to work directly for the CIA where he served as a "Troubleshooter" until he was recruited for the newly forming joint British/American UNified Intelligence Taskforce
