Known Background:  Originally a
tanker and cavalryman later trained for
the air cavalry, James Di'Angelo is a
Vietnam veteran who spent a few years at the infamous Hanoi Hilton before escaping and spending two years traversing the jungle to arrive in Saigon.  He fulfilled his deployment obligation, then returned to the US, where he bought a used UH-1 to become a charter pilot, both prop-driven fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft.
It was during a charter job to Alaska that his helicopter went down.  His rich client and his hunting buddies claim incompetence nearly killed them, and are trying to sue him for breach of contract and injuries caused by the crash and exposure to the elements, when it was their drunken antics
that damaged the helicopter in flight, and DiAngelo's piloting and survival skills are the only reason they all made it back alive.  While fighting the lawsuit, and trying to file his countersuit, he had been working at a skydiving school for an old Army friend when approached by a UNIT
recruiter....

of Sergeant Lewis Di'Angelo, a factory
worker who served in both World War 2 and the Korean War as a combat medic (who was killed in one of the final battles before the ceasefire), and Leigh Douglas (a nurse-
turned-doctor), James is the youngest of four:
